Cowboys Have Extended Orlando Scandrick... 5 Years/$27M

This is a real character test for Scandrick. Is he the guy who will up his game to match his new deal or is he fat and happy?

I hope the brain trust knows what it just did.

Rob Ryan doesn't have to give his blessing does he? I'm not sure he's earned that yet.

I think Rob is high on Scandrick so I think he signed off on this signing.

I recall at one point he was supposed to be the starter and not Jenkins. They were like neck and neck with Jenkins winning the battle.

I love this signing. Now we have two young CBs locked up for a long time. We're gonna need them both in this pass happy league.

Maybe now he shut the heck up about not having respect (from the media) and playing with a chip on his shoulder and just focus on his play.

I tell you what Scandrick. If you think the media and the fans are on your butt now about your performance, you haven't seen nothing yet. :laugh1:

Not sure if it is a good deal or a bad deal, that is for smarter football minds than me to decide but isn't it possible that Jerry and his staff know more about football than those who post here?

Are you kidding me? We have a bunch of genius football fans up in here.

Scandrick's always been one of those guys I feel is underrated by the fan base. And I think his best football is ahead of him.

He'll slide in nicely to that starting spot next year on a team where he doesn't have to wonder anymore if he's wanted or not.

Lets recap his last two seasons:

2009, was the most targeted CB in the entire league and allowed 62% completion rate against him.

2010, gave up 6 tds and allowed 65% completion percentage

I don't see why fans think he is underrated? He isn't even a good nickel CB. I don't get it. He is in position all the time and just gets outplayed when the ball is in the air. It's frustrating.

good point, he better earn that kind of coin

i was surprised.....25 mil is alot of money....guess i will have to see how the contract is structured.

Its safe to say.....Scandrick will probably be taking Newman spot next year. Jenkins up next.....then for the next 3-4 yrs....we have two solid CB's tied up.

We all know with how the CBA is.....someone would of thrown big money at Scandrick.

I dont think its a great deal.....but the Coaches must really like what they have seen in TC....

yes...for instance ryan knows when he sends scandrick on a blitz he will actually make the tackle.... not whiff like a girl.

This is a good move. Newman will not make all season.

I bet JJ, JG, and RR all agree with this move.

I'm learning that what I really need to do is rip everything Jerry does so I can say later if it goes badly that Jerry is a dummy.

Good post.

This might be a great signing, we just don't know yet. But it's not the slam dunk deal so many are acting like.

I think most of us knew that Scandrick was going to take some time to develop. He came out of Boise St early and very raw.

The athletic ability has always been there with him. I think the scouts have been keeping a close eye on his development. Toward the end of last season, he really started to come on. I think they either see a continuation of his development, or a huge improvement.

I was hoping they'd resign him. I'm surprised it was for this much. I really think his best years are ahead of him.

Now, if Jenkins comes back around, we're set at CB for a while.

Last year:

Quarterbacks completed 53 of 77 passes for 530 yards with seven touchdowns and an interception — a passer rating of 113.0 — against Orlando Scandrick

Yet fans on here think Scandrick is a good CB regardless of the fact that he hasn't showed he is even a DECENT cb yet in his career.

I told my brother "5/$27M extension. Guess who?". 10 guesses he still didn't get it.

Make of that what you will

you must be speaking of jenkins...

No, Jenkins was one of the bad starters from last year.

Scandrick is a good #3 CB but a bad #2 CB.

4 years $12M would have been a fair deal for someone with his resume.

He has bad ball awareness and is terrible in press coverage so I'm not even sure that he fits Ryan's defense all that well.

On the plus side, he is a good tackler, he is durable and he plays hard.

I think this is Barber situation all over again - we've given starter money to a backup with big holes in his game.

Your brother is a horrible guesser?

He doesn’t know the Cowboys. Everyone and their grandmother knew Scandrick was on his contract year. Every other word out of his mouth was about getting paid.

Like it did making Roy Williams one of the highest paid receivers in the game almost immediately after trading for him? Or like they did for Marion Barber based off one strong season?

I will go ahead and say no, they do not know what they just did. They just saw a solid player and then decided it would be better to take a preemptive strike.

As much of a gambler Jerry Jones is, he strangely does not gamble on talent outproducing their contract. He is more prone to proactively reward potential than challenge players to actually price themselves out of their pay bracket. It just does not make a lot of sense.

I am actually OK with the deal. It is pretty much how much Commanders paid for Bowen and 5M/year is the going rate for young average but promising players.
