I like Pollard, obviously. But Dowdle is barely a JAG until he proves otherwise. And I personally think Deuce is going to be a problem for the entire NFL. BUT, Deuce, as of today, is a back that is too small to be on the field consistently and doesn't look like he'll be much good for pass blocking. I really do think Deuce is going to prove to be the real deal...but he hasn't yet. And until he proves all the naysayers wrongs, history is on their side. I really like his potential A LOT, but I'm aware enough that my Pollyanna vision of him won't do much for him when Hasaan Reddick is bearing down on Dak's blindside and he's the only thing in the way.

I LOVE the potential in the room. That said, I'd say we have a lower-middle of the NFL RB room, despite having Pollard.
I agree with everything that you say there, except the conclusion. The potential will be realized, but I'd prefer Deuce to be lined up outside for the quick pass in case of emergency. Much more effective that Deuce blocking.

In fact the offensive scheme should rule out Deuce blocking.... ever...

I was just watching an old game, 1980 playoffs vs the Falcons. Even in 1980 they still had Dorsett, Newhouse, Pearson, Springs and Newsome and they all played in that playoff game. I was thinking how nice running back depth is.

The best?!? No no no no no no no! Don’t you know anything? That’s not gonna fly here! We suck! We’re doomed! 7-10 or worse. A front office of greedy idiots, a fat puppet HC, deteriorating OL, joke RB room, middling WRs, overrated defense, no depth—a guaranteed first round playoff loss, IF we even make it.

Hope and optimism is outdated Kool Aid for dumb homers. My fondest wish? Dallas loses, so I get another eight months of gloating on the internet!

I’ve been a big fan since ‘72, and I know more than those invested in it for a living! I’ve got everything figured out! Go Cowboys!

The only thing more arrogant that the jones family are the cowboys fans.

Most do not even watch the rest of the league but make statements like this.

The case to be made here: Tony Pollard is about 15th in production, having split time with Ezekiel Elliott last year of course. But, Pollard has the highest YPC of any 1000 yard RB in the league last year, at 5.2 YPC. Rico Dowdle has shown growth, and is the lowest ceiling player in the group, but an all around decent player in my opinion. Deuce Vaughn will provide some highlight reel moves this year, while hopefully supporting with average pass blocking skills at best. Hunter Leupke is already an average pass blocker, and has shown versatility in both running style and receiving.

While this group does not have the pedigree that the top RB does for some other teams, the depth is probably the greatest strength, not to mention that Dallas has 4 RB's to utilize in varying ways. It's about as diverse a group as it can be, yet also very talented. I'm going to enjoy watching them this year, and think that this group outmatches any NFC East group of RB's and as the season goes on, will surprise many NFL experts, to be a top 5 overall group at RB.
Not even the best RB room in the division.

They have the best RB in Pollard but depth is a question with three guys who have little to no NFL real game snaps.

Let’s revisit in like October.

No one really knows until the season gets going, but someone that I respect a lot and dives into these things head first has us at 13th in the running game. A lot of that is not taking Deuce seriously as a runner. If he has little impact in the running game, I think 13th is about right. But I think he's going to have more impact than people think.

I'm hoping for a good year rushing, especially when the other team knows a run is coming such as a "wind the clock" situation. I don't know about the RBs on the Cowboys, we will have to see.
Also, when did it become the style to refer to a position group as a "room?" Is it because of shows like Hard Knocks showing the meeting rooms?

Most likely have the most unproven RB room

I feel like our rb group collectively is average. Deuce could cause that to change quickly

I do think that pass protection is a concern here, and yet, I don't know how to measure that in terms of comparing to other RB's It's not really a stat, other than an injured QB.
The QB can measure it pain and soreness the next day. It depends on your QB's mobility. Dak isn't a statue, but he doesn't have elite level escapability. For example, our season ended on a sack.

I should also mention that one of the reasons that Pollard didn't play as much early on was... pass protection. He struggled in it early on. Running is the easiest thing for an athlete to do. Reading a defense and knowing the protection schemes takes time. It's not a given that these young backs will have that down. One mistake could cost the season...it's that serious.

The Giants fans may dispute that claim.

Pollard had the benefit of being #2. That means you don't do a lot of heavy lifting and teams don't generally game plan you.

I urge you to look at our #2's over the last couple decades. Obscene numbers. Even underwear thief.

And they generally fizzle out when going to #1 or having to do more.

Now...not saying Tony is that. Although he never has been #1...right? I think if we have good management he can fill that role.

He just never has...so how do you know?

We will see. It depends on how the O-Line plays. Our starters never really played preseason and we played against some teams starters and our back up O-Line was opening holes and RBs did well.

Pollard hopefully has full recovery and is physically and more importantly mentally ready to trust, cut and push off with the leg. If so he will be good for 15 or so touches.

Deuce should be a lightning bolt that will be exciting to watch get lost in the line and pop out on the other side.

Dowdle needs to hold on to the ball. That fumble he had that was supposed to be a TD had better been a fluke. Not sure if he has had fumble problems in the past. He looked to beat out Malik a few years back before his injury.

Luepke is a wild card. Seems to be physical and no problem banging in the middle. That can help wear an opposing defense down. Elliot did that for us before. Plus Luepke looks like he has that something special. Of course it was one game against scrubs. Let’s see when the starters are out there if it translates over.
