You could look at it that way. I can't say you're wrong. I believe the mentality it takes to hand 5 million a year over multiple years to a declining 31 year old S probably prevents the long term thinking it takes to draft a QB at 4.

To me you only give Weddle this kind of deal now if you are in win now mode. So if that's the thinking then I can't see the team using the 4th overall pick in the draft on a win later player.

Model franchise? Who said that? They were a train wreck, just like we are. Point was, they've been to two AFC championships and a SuperBowl since we've been there, and even in this century.

If you say 40 is old, then Yep I'm old. But I think most would disagree.

Murray SUCKED last season and got traded as was there for the Cowboys to trade for they wanted his 700 yards. Bruce Carter got benched and was CUT. Parnell........did decent in Jacksonville. Durant too was let go. Yet, this was why we won 4 games last year. Never mind Romo not being here. Never mind Dez being hurt. Its because of the guys we let go who happened to have gotten cut a year later. Jerry and co. chose not to overpay for role players and they were right. Now they can sign those same players now if they want.

And yes we have BIIIGGGGGG time problems. We can't win without Romo. That's been the case for YEARS now.

I'm tired of older players that will only be with us for a year or so. I want depth and better drafting. Let him go elsewhere, we have way too many needs and are already over paying for players that can't stay healthy or productive....see Sean Lee/ Tony Romo...or anyone else on the defense...Yes I'm negative, but only because I haven't seen a winning team in years that wasn't a one year wonder.

I have no interest in Weddle. 1) He's an older declining player who will still probably command a healthy salary at multiple years and 2) making this kind of move would more than likely mean a win now 1st round pick in the draft. If you're of the mindset to pay 5 million a year on a multi year deal for a 31 year old safety it's safe to say you're pretty focused on going all in to win now. We aint got no time for a QB.

Don't like it. Don't think it's the white right move to make.

I expect a radical shift of opinion on this move after everyone gets a chance to read this.

I agree with your post, but what these players did this year, has no real bearing on what they represented for us in 2014 and what wasn't there for us.

Murray didn't price out! The money that JJ gave the great players like Jed Collins, Jasper Brinkley, Andrew Gachkar, Keith Rivers, and Corey White was more than enough to keep DM , Durant, and Carter. If you add Christine Michael, Robert Turbin, Rod Smith, Joseph Randall, Michael Hill, Ben Malena, Lache Seastrunk, Gus Johnson, and Ryan Williams to that list of a great running back by committee, We could've paid Murray what he wanted and had added cap space. You seriously can't argue that we had a good RB philosophy last year. Your idea of DM being priced out doesn't hold any merit of you looking this list of guys we paid for.
