Who's praising Mincey?

He was a good value for the dollars invested.

On a good defensive line Mincey would be the #3 guy.

Is that what the Cowboys need? Another #3 guy?

I would like to think the Cowboys would go after a guy who has a little better pass rush acumen.

Didnt say you, i added the term we as cowboys fans in there.

Dallas if they sign Clayborn would be a guy they kick the tires with and see what he has during TC. nothing wrong with that. Dallas has found players like that, MIncey, Selvie, Durant, Kosier, L Robinson ect. Dallas has very good and capable posistion coaches who have been able to maximize production from JAGs. And have had them overachieve. It just says alot about the coaches than the players if you ask me.

Is he worth a "tire kick"?

Yeah, if the price was low enough.

But all else being equal there are probably a dozen other guys at DE I'd rather see the Cowboys sign.

And they probably will sign them too if they need to. I think these coaches have showed they know what theyre doing. When even its own fan base had no respect for them last yr saying this defense would be worse then the yr before. These coaches proved alot of people wrong. they jumped over 16 teams on defense. With minimal additions. With more added i can see another 8 teams jumped.

He's terrible vs. the run.

And in his last full season as a starter he had 6 sacks in 955 snaps (a poor ratio for a 4-3 DE).

A healthier Spencer/Selvie combination can put up those numbers and play the run at a much higher level.

If you're looking for pass rush there are much better guys out there (who aren't upper echelon) like Sheard and Trent Cole.

.[/quote]

Well this year Spencer/Selvie combined for 3.5, so I don't think it's a given that they will be more productive pass rushers.

Agreed.

But there are guys out there with better reputations for sacking the QB than Clayborn.

Let's see if the Cowboys can get one of them before they're reduced to another Mincey-type of DE.

I don't disagree, I'd try Cole, Sheard or a few others over Clayborn, but with any of them, I'd also add a DE early.

Why not get both? Why does it have to be one or the other? We can sign 2 DEs... and we probably could use 2 DEs, if Clayborn would serve as an (younger, probably just as healthy) upgrade to Spencer (who isn't on this team last I checked), why not sign both. Clayborn is a guy who rightfully was drafted high then has had injury problems, sounds like a good depth pickup, and they we can get the top guy as well.

Agreed. There's no reason why they couldn't get two FA DE's... But I'd rather have Sheard (young guy with more potential Clayborn) and Cole (old guy who's proven he can get to the QB) than Clayborn.

its incredible...people for some outrageous reason, seem to think players will just sign any deals that are put in front of them

we should really go after Suh and see if he will play on an incentive laden contract...if he doesnt get 10+ sacks, he only gets the vet minimum

thank you

Sheard + Cole = too much dough for one position, you would essentially being playing 3 players to be starters at that point while DT and CB goes unlooked into never a good idea. Sheard or Cole + Clayborn is far more reasonable.

I think we'll have to see how it all plays out... everything else is conjecture.

You missed the memo, every FA wants to be a Cowboy. Some even offer home town discounts. Can't think of one that did but..........

Rookie season 7.5 sacks
Sophomore season IR
3rd season 6.5 sacks
Last year IR

Former 1st rounder , sounds like our kinda defender . Injury history drafted high.

So he will play this year but miss 2016? Might as well sign him to just a one year contract then.

Two 5s don't equal a 10. I would rather pay top dollar or use a top draft pick for DE. Mincey and DLaw have one side covered.

He is better suited to play DT than DE. He has lost his burst off the edge, but has the physicallity to play inside and be effective.

The more former Hawkeyes on this team the better. They are the definition of a RKG with work ethic and effort.
