Cowboys leaning towards not playing Dak in preseason; no final decision yet

For what it's worth, here's the episode where he basically breaks down the preseason.

In it, he mentions, for example, that the Pats got upset at the Panthers for constantly blitzing on 3rd down. So, I'm going to guess, based on what Pat is saying, that the other coaches gave him an answer involving Dak that Mike didn't like.

Ok, brother, I just finished watching the whole video. I didn't see anything mentioning Dak, Mike McCarthy or the Cowboys. I'm a bit confused.

Every year this thread pops up. It’s no benefit for Dak to play any preseason games against dummy defenses. Luckily we get to see Dak scrimmage against one of the best defenses in the NFL in practice everyday. Of course the usual Dak haters love to chime in.
So you dont see the benefit of increased repetition against a Defense that's a shade above passive. One of our issues over past year+ is that our Offense cant overcome changes on the field....great in practice but found wanting in gameday situations when defenses change. Lets get the passing game working against some sort of active defense.

Listen if other teams would scheme against the Cowboys in the preseason like back before 2000s, the offense should play 3 quarters during the final preseason game. It’s a different time. Teams barely play their rookie 1st round pick quarterback’s now.

Oooh, I see where you're confused. Sorry, the point I was trying to make was that he was talking about how the coaches usually handle preseason. He didn't mention Mike McCarthy by name, but, based on what he was talking about, I figured out that was probably what Mike McCarthy was doing. Thus, if coaches usually talk about plans for preseason games with their opposing coaches, then it would make sense why Mike might be hesitant to play Dak.

A rusty QB - just what the teams needs to start the season. They must not be interested in coming out the gate strong.

Aaah, gotcha! I agree. Mike McCarthy would definitely have a valid reason to be worried. I still hope Dak and the starters get to play at least a half or 3 - 4 series sometime this preseason. It will be interesting to see what transpires and how it will eventually affect the regular season.

Fur sure, I think Dak should play a little bit, but, if Mike was told that Doug Peterson, for example, is planning on blitzing a lot, then he may say, with Zach Martin holding out, that it's not worth the risk to Dak.

I do not think anyone needs to see the offense score 30 but there are some things that would be beneficial to see in a live game that you will not get from practice. It's not about winning the game but seeing guys in situational football and seeing how they perform.

Princess has an appointment with his retirement planner. Prepping for the regular season takes a back seat to the bank account all day long.

When romo got hurt in 2016 I didn’t say that and I totally agreed with playing in the preseason.

Can’t be scared, and injuries can happen at any time…
It’s not about being scared it’s about reward outweighing risk. I’m sorry but a series of a preseason game is not going to help you in the season. It’s pointless. Preseason is where backups find their footing and develop.

I say Dak needs to play at least one series in a game, especially if he is running a new system.
Well, he really isn't. Only 30% new stuff. If he can't handle the Cowboys have bigger problems than they think at QB.

That being said, I agree with you. He should play the first series of each game and possibly more in the last one.
