you know that what you're saying could be viewed just as much of an assumption too.

there was never a injury reported for Cox on the weekly injury report. And if he was valued even as a special teams contributor, he would have been game active.

Healthy scratch weekly ..
I’m just stating what I’ve heard from beat writers. They said he was having similar issues to Gallup and just wasn’t playing with confidence and they didn’t trust him. It wasn’t that he was hurt he just wasn’t playing like he was pre injury.

What's it going to be then, eh?

The position group will be fine.

It really will be three at most four players since Parsons is something else.

The real key is Overshown.

I really think that Quinn has not decided between LB or S for him.

Since so far no vet has been brought in ....appears Dallas is hitching their wagon to unproven, but talented, youngsters. Clark needs to make the jump, Overshown just a rook, Cox still finding himself, and the only real vet is LVE which is a scary thought. I am hoping Clark does his thing, and O bedazzles in the rotation. Getting more skeptical on Cox for some reason, but hope he gets it this year. And of course Micah, no words need to be said on him, need for him to be the All Pro he is .

lol... oh c'mon, ... what kind of coaches admits weaknesses ?

What would his own players think of him ...and of themselves hearing that outright from his own coaches, if he confesses that in front of the media ? ....
If the LB's are so weak, don't any of you believe that Quinn would address that unit? Just asking and I don't want a deluge of Jerry excuses.

Group has athletic upside but I think badly needs a steady veteran.
This whole group reflects around the abilities of Parsons, similar to the Giants with Lawrence Taylor. More is being added now, to develop into as strong as that Giant group became.

The only concern is the unknown because Clark, Cox and Overshown are basic unknowns with Cox being the biggest ?. Has he progressed from LSU where his D coaches there coundn't trust him to a full time LB role. But he did make some strong plays when he did play. Seems to be an issue with consistency with him.

Quinn may have thought he has done so in drafting Overshown in the 3rd round ...along with the return of LVE and Clark.

Otherwise if he is not content with what he sees in his unit by entire summer's end,.. we'll be doing the Anthony Barr route again
as far as looking at what's left in FA street LB

McCurley should be an upgrade as the LB coach. Mazi Smith should make a huge difference in the LB play this year.
George Edwards had skins on the wall as former DC, ..what has McCurley done that's be considered an upgrade ?

Gallup was game activated and played every single game ..while attempting to knock the rust off ...

Cox was made game inactive thru most of the entire season, only playing 9 games, . only when injuries hit the LB numbers, only then was made active .

You cannot knock ACL rust off of you unless you're made active and playing the games..
and this was supposed to be a m-id round draftee who they reportedly had a 2nd rd grade on.

Just what I heard from Bobby Belt. Also said it’s a big possibility he gets cut as well if he doesn’t play above his head in preseason. Gallup was our 2nd best receiver he wasn’t getting inactive. Cox was not our 3rd best linebacker and they felt they could get better play than what he was providing.

Linebackers - i think our LB unit will be spearheaded by 3 players- LVE, Clark and Overshown, imo.
But there are some questions and concerns about this LB unit, imo too. It only has 1 true experienced vet in Vander Esch.
And there's a ton of inexperience that could be our weakness at LB all said and done.
With Parsons being more DE than LB, can he truly be noted as a true LB ?

- When healthy and at top of his game, LVE can be solid, at the least serviceable. He's just not a big play turnover or sack guy
or a Sean Lee clone like i'd hope he'd be.
But he's decent enuff - until we get that stud LB. But what if he gets hurt ??.. which he has had a history of.
He's missed much, ..not that LVE is that good, but more so cuz our LB depth has always been so very weak & suspect. IF LVE , who is key backup ?

Damone Clark was a rookie in NFL learning mode- lost in coverage breakdowns. but he had zero camp summer and was activated after handful of NFL games
But he was supposedly a finalist at LSU, for the Dick Butkus award for best LB in college football.
Because of that alone, he's worth the watch and wait after a full offseason program and full camp.

Demarvion Overshown will be another watch and wait, i just don't expect a lot from him early on, as he continues to learn LB role, plus adjusts to NFL level,
as well as Quinn's system. Special teams i expect he'll be a big contributor. Hopeful he becomes a Deion Jones, Kwon Alexander type.
I'd like to see him form tackle better,

Devin Harper - they liked him a lot a a late round pick, but an achilles tendon tear ended his year- and i'm concerned that he may not recover fully
from that kind of injury.

Jabril Cox ? rookie year only 8 snaps before his ACL, - because coaches did not trust him,..'23 ? virtually spent entire year on Inactive game day list.
Why ? Coaches apparently do not trust him. Not even thought out as special teams help.
So what real experience and skill set does he have to offer and expect ?

Isiah Ward was a undrafted player that collected an astounding 19 sacks in one season in college. Despite those numbers, he was even drafted.
Perhaps because of his 210 pound body for an edge rusher and playing in an inferior smaller college..
Either he will be a rush specialist on long pass downs.. or he will be converted to an off ball LB, who will still rush passer ..a lot.!!
Ala Hasson Riddick.

Take it for what it is worth, but currently he's supposedly bulked up from 215 lbs. ..to a " listed" 236 pounds.

Isnt Mazi the best addition to the LB Room. The ability to play Mazi/Hankins should help the LB's play clean. On Damone lets be fair, it was a near miracle that he even took the field.

Micah will also play snaps at LB.

Worst name Lb corps in the N.F.L.

Will they stop the run? Da'no.

Can they contain on the edge? Ja'maybe.

I think he has decided, or suspects, he can and will play both.

He gives good interviews. It's just a feeling I have no empirical evidence, it's the offseason. Al Harris didn't have any skins.

If anything, i'd expect a vet LB at the end of camp, just as we did for Anthony Barr.at summer's end.

this summer, i reckon the Cowboys want to take a long, strong look at their young guys, and not lessen their learning reps .
.until situations becomes dire = ala under-performance all summer... or an unfortunate injury.
Can see them taking a hard look before doing anything. I believe Barr was signed at the start of camp last yr. It is a matter of trust with Quinn. He didn't trust Clark in the playoffs and went with Barr.
