Cowboys need to stop faking, let Will McClay do his job in free agency

Logan is a guy I'd love to get... but I don't think Philly will let him go. I've been wrong before though.

I generally agree that a really good inside push helps the ends more than most people think. When a QB can't step up in the pocket, it makes life really hard on the OT's (and much easier for DE's).

I still lament Dallas not moving up just a few spots to draft Aaron Donald... though I love Zack Martin.

We could have drafted Logan, but choose Escobar.

Hopefully no TE picked in the 1st or 2nd round this year (unless Witten retires).

My post wasn't really in response to anyone specific. I think Will McClay does a great job but even he has some misses. You're right up mirrors my own opinion when he was drafted. It was a "I hope the Cowboys got it right" feeling. So far it doesn't appear they have.

Did I actually type "right up" instead of "write up"? Ugh! I'm ashamed.

But I bet you that Marinelli thinks he is a difference making 3-T, which he isn't and never will be. There is not a lineman on this roster I would trust to start if I could remake the line from scratch. Collins is the only one close and I am not even sold on him. The rest should be reserves if we really wanted to field a quality DL.
I agree. Fix the front four the way we did the O-line. Collins had five sacks as a rookie. I wouldn't start Crawford at end or the 3 he's not a starter he's a reserve as for FA DE there's not one worth going after.

appreciate your appearing before the court would you raise your right hand

So the point of the article is to give McClay a blank check and go get that great pass rusher.

Funny how it never suggest who exactly he is supposed to go out and get.

The other thing it really spends a lot of time talking about (the cap issues), it suggests we need to do that again.

Mario Addison.

Thank me later.

That's an average group to me. I'd upgrade McClain and Thornton is possible to make it a LEGIT good group

Unlikely you can cast both aside and replace them this offseason when you are looking at other needs as well.

Now if you want to cut one loose and draft a DT, maybe like a Jaron Jones or Adams in the 3rd round or later............I can get on board with that.

Bennie Logan would be a nice fit but he's going to be pricey IMO. I'd rather spend the money on a guy like Addison or Sheard.

A 30 year old with three starts in his entire career. Sorry, not all jazzed about that one.

A 30 year old that had 10 sacks last year and 22 over the last 3 years.

You are ignoring your own advice to KD. Look at the market. There are no stud pass rushers available. Jones likely isn't being let go. JPP is going to get overpaid and I am not sure he's the pass rush fiend he was anymore anyway.

Addison is the perfect guy. An older guy who won't command a ton of money and actually has a skill set we lack.

Neither am I. And if you're lookîng for the epitome of a guy who qualifies as an 'overpriced free agent', I think this guy fits that bill to a 'T'.

Agree to disagree. I think someone will offer him too much money, more than he's worth. I just hope it's not Dallas, and I don't expect it to be.

Have you taken a look at the DE market in FA? There is practically a bare cupboard. It is almost laughable.

In Dallas' case, they are better off looking to plug other places than the DL in FA and free up the draft to carpet bomb the unit.

If I am a team that wants one and I have cap to burn, I might look at Addison's production and flush the money. Teams that are busting at the seams with the cap will likely give him a front loaded contract thinking he has a solid year or two left.

This player is also looking for a final pay day. He is going to play for as much as he can conceivably get and that will likely be what we are willing to part with.

If someone offers him some ridiculous deal, sure, pass.

But if you can get him on a deal for a bit more money than something Robert Ayers go or even Mario Williams got, it's a no brainer IMO.

Again, what's your solution?

Ummmmm.............. I think I said this exact thing in the post you responded to.

Spotrac does estimates (not sure how accurate they turn out to be) but I think they had Addison at around $6-7MM a year for 3-4 years. Seems reasonable to me and I would take that risk. He's immediately the best pass rusher on our team.

But hey, if you want to pour his money into a stud CB or Eric Berry, fine by me.

Lol seems we're the only ones seeing this. DEs this year suck.

Yea I want to Logan to replace McClain and a rookie to replace Thornton. We'd have the best interior defense in the NFL.

Logan isn't a pressure guy though. So if you are thinking you can fix the pass rush by beefing up the DT spot because the DE FA class is weak, Logan isn't really the guy that's going to change that IMO.

If paying the steep price to get a difference maker is the idea, I would rather try to trade for a Cameron Wake than pay anyone in this free agent class.

Unfortunately, as weak as this FA market is, I think a trade for a player may end up being the best option. Trouble is who's listening and what do they want? Wake wouldn't break my heart but I'm not giving up more than a 3rd for him. I don't think the Phins would bite.

That's the other rub, the price is never cheap in a trade deal, either.
