Cowboys need to take advantage of trade deadline fire sales

I don't expect us to be making any trades, but I do wonder if someone like Grady Jarrett would be possible if the Falcons keep losing. I still think we need more pressure from our regular DTs than we get and are missing that dominant 3-tech piece we need to be elite on defense. The only reason I think about him as a possibility is because we have his former head coach as our DC.
Atlanta is 3-3 ...which currently has them tied for 1st place in the NFC South.
2nd year HC Mike Campbell has the team playing agressive and tough (they took advantage of depleted 49ers defense yeaterday).
Bridge QB Mariota is reunited with his former OC/now HC, and is playing beyond what most Falcons fans expected.
Jarrett signed an extenstion that works out to $16.5 million a year through 2025 (incentatives can boost it to $17 per).
He is now the most notable veteran prescence and team leader since longtime QB Ryan was traded to the Colts.
5 of Atlanta's next 7 opponents are on par with them or worse - so expect them to still be in the playoff hunt when the calendar turns to December.
Jarrett will not be traded to the Cowboys - or any other team - in 2022.

After they won yesterday, I felt it was even more far-fetched that they would trade them. It was contingent on them losing several in a row. Teams generally don't trade unless they feel they are rebuilding and need younger talent or extra picks to do it or they've got an expensive player with good talent waiting in the wings.

New GM Terry Fontenot and HC Campbell arrived early in 2021 spouting a mantra of sorts - that despite the dismal four previous years - that a full rebuild was not needed...so trading Jarrett so they could draft capital was never in their plans, despite sports media speculation.

Not deadset on Anderson. But really do not understand the negativity about turning over rocks.

I'd still take a flyer on him for right price. Cowboys have an opportunity THIS season and improvement in any of the 3 phases should be a priority.

And let's stop pretending that the Cowboys have not had success with malcontents before.

Haley, TO, Hollywood, the Sphinx and even the Playmaker were beloved as Cowboys and did much worse than Robbie Anderson.

So hypocrite all you want, I'm just looking for ways to keep winning.

Hell, throw out your own names.

I'm down for bringing in OBJ.. And/or Suh...

It mentioned Anderson specifically. And that’s precisely why I then mentioned him.

I’m sorry if you don’t like it.

Your fixation on Robbie Anderson is unnatural.

He was an example of talented players at positions of need who could be made available, hopefully on the cheap.

Not sure why this is so difficult to understand. Are you purposefully trying to derail the thread?

I would seriously trade our 1 for Derrick Brown.

-We're picking in the 16-25 zone almost guaranteed. Not even losing Dak could derail our draft position.

-It doesn't look like a good draft class for DTs, outside of top 5 all-world mutant Jalen Carter. There's no one we can draft who is likely to be better than Brown.

-DTs usually take a couple seasons to hit their ceiling. Big Q, Dexter Lawrence, and Jonathan Allen are 3 examples off my head. They were all right players as rookies, but it took 2-3 years to become That Dude. With a 1st round rookie, you probably aren't looking at impact-player return until 2024 or 25. The Panthers have already paid for Brown's learning curve, and he is ready to become That Dude right now in 2022.

-Brown still has 1.5 cheap years left and a tag year. You are probably saving $20M on his rookie deal vs what it would cost to pay him as a FA.

DJ Moore would be a great addition too. The financials don't shake out as nicely, but he is a 100% certified baller.

Yeah Derrick Brown is my 2nd pick in free agency after DJ Moore. I'd happily give a 1st and 2nd to Carolina for both players. I honestly don't trust this staff to use their 2nd rounder wisely anyways. Plus I think these two additions can really take us to the next level.

You need to check yourself and look in a mirror. You brought his name up. Don’t try to project that onto anyone else. Own it.

There’s no such thing as a “trade deadline fire sale”. If you want something of value, it’s going to cost you.
Some points:
  • When was the last time this organization made a big trade? They occasionally make very small trades. But the Amari Cooper trade in 2018 is the last time I can remember a big trade this team made.
  • This organization treats trades like free agency. Cheap, low value.
  • Obtaining WRs is not a high need for this team IMO.
  • Perhaps a speedy young LB or backup OL but not a WR.

Agreed and not that this FO would make a big move or two but this just may be the season when a big move or two is needed given the quality of the defense. Next season Dallas may have some cap issues and some players not returning (ex. Pollard, Schultz, Rush, N. Brown, McGovern, LVE, A. Brown, D. Wilson all UFA) and large contracts to restructure or release (ex. Dak, Zeke, Tyron Smith, Martin, Gallup, DLaw) so this may be their chance to 'do something' in terms of a deep playoff run.

Making deals is supposed to be Jerry's super power.

He needs to walk his talk.
OK this feel like the offseason all over again after a close loss to a top team in the league claiming all our issues

saying Jerrys not done enough yet we sit here at 4-2 and had the eagles on the ropes had it not been for that final INT by rush , cold have been different outcome we beat NY already. Yet here the flood gates come claiming if we don't trade we are in trouble..how about the let the professional at the star figure it out..

the overreactions are priceless.

adding Dak back now is like trade. Washingtons nearly back and Tyrone has shot to get back . also that LB been practicing, we have players already on the team that can help make improvements down the stretch.
