That just baffles me. It really does. I can't understand wanting someone better perhaps. But some here are going overboard - saying he can't be productive anymore and that he's too old.

I believe some Cowboys fans are so used to losing that they aren't comfortable with winning. They want to get back to what their used to which is losing. I guess when we lose its easier to come in here a grumble about it. Now when we win people can't gripe and grumble anymore thus they find anyways to nitpick the Cowboys.

Sorry to say these fellas but I think the Cowboys are back. So you better get used to winning. If you can't handle us winning then there are other teams to root for such as Cleveland and Tampa to name a few.

Is it just easier to believe something like that than it is to look at what historically happens to players under the level of workload we gave to Murray last season? None of this is to make light of Murray's contributions under his rookie contract. In fact, of most of the posters on this board, I was probably one of the guys defending the quality of Murray's play against some of the posters who now want to extend him for a second deal at what's going to have to be a premium to market rate. But this next deal is not about what Demarco Murray has done for us. It's only about what he's likely to do. If players in his circumstances usually drop off dramatically at his age and number of carries from the previous season, then you have to be smart and be prepared for that to happen with any contract extension you give him. If you can't price a deal accordingly, then you have to move on. Especially when it's a zero sum game and you're team is in desperate need of a pass rush. And especially when there are ~8-10 guys in the draft this season you can realistically plug into your hole at RB. Whereas the only realistic pass rush options are in VFA and are going to be expensive.

As for the Cowboys being back...yes, I know. I've been telling a hostile majority of posters that since Jason Garrett's been in charge. This time last season that loud group of 'realists' were calling me an idiot for saying I'd have extended him then. And I was saying the problem was not at HC and we needed to address the defense if we wanted to get over the hump. Now it's obvious I was right about the HC, but we still need to address the defense. If you overpay for a RB and extend Dez, that's going to be really hard to do with our current cap situation.

Please explain to me what is not special about 1800 yards. And before youy tell me this was the liner, keep in mind what Zach Martin said about green grass and making contact.

The idea he is not special just makes my head want to explode.

I know, right? Murray leads league by far in rushing. Cowboys go 12-4. Fluke? I think not.

He ran for 4.7 yards per carry and did so with a bad hand in the last few games. He also had a game with Brandon Weeden at QB where we weren't able to throw the ball.

He also broke the record for 100-yard rushing games in a row.

His career yards per carry is 4.8 a pop.

I've never heard any opposing defensive player or coach say anything but Murray running with speed and power. And that's why they fear his ability.

The issue for him in FA is that the RB position is no longer valued like it once was and he did run for nearly 400 carries so there is skepticism about him keeping the pace. But as a player, he is special because he runs for power, speed and turns that speed into power while being able to cut and 'get small' thru the running lanes.

He's not Adrian Peterson as a runner, but Peterson comes along once every 20 years. And Peterson is lousy on passing downs. Outside of pure ability to run the ball (and run it properly), outside of Peterson I can't think of any other tailback in the game I would want.

And he made a statement with the hand fracture -- that he would not let anything get in his way of contributing to the success of his team.

He played just a few days after surgery, and was a huge source of motivation and an example of toughness. He went to war with them, and you can bet they want to stay with him.

Chemistry, esprit de corps, Jerry juice -- whatever you call it, dem boyz have it now; you would think they would want to keep this good thing going.

I agree and I think that is why Romo has as reported stayed on Jerry about getting Dez and Murray signed. I think Romo sees he has something that is working and can get us to the SB and he does not want to lose that if at all possible.

Tony Romo made it clear Friday morning that he’s doing everything he can to persuade Jerry Jones to keep both Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray long-term.
Obviously, that’s easier said than done. There’s a business side to the game and keeping a pair of talented free agents like Bryant and Murray will be difficult.

But after an unexpected 12-4 season, Romo sees the opportunity the franchise currently has and he’s hoping Jones does everything he can to capitalize with this group.
“I’m pretty consistently [talking to Jones], and everyone around the building, about bringing them both back,” Romo said on 103.3 [KESN-FM]. “I think everybody understands how great these guys are and how lucky we are to have them.

Baber contract was a 7 year deal and I agree Dallas will not hand out a 7 year deal this time around.

I also thought that Barbers deal was way too much. He's production didn't warrant the contract that he had. Murray is productive. Much more so than Barber. He's not a barn burner and fumbles. But that doesn't warrant him being run out of town. I would hate for that to happen and don't get a viable alternative.

I say offer him something reasonable. We don't need to overspend we did with Barber.
