Cowboys News & Notes: Possible Destinations For DeMarco Murray

What I am saying is you spend all this money on WR and it makes it hard to address other issues in the mean time Gronk is a TE and looking at the top WR I don't see a lot of bling on their fingers. We just saw 2 teams in the SB neither having WR top 24 at the position.

Please, stop with this tight end nonsense. Tight ends are receivers. Gronk is the best receiver on their team. There is not real difference, he's a number one receiver in their system.

The idea is to not overpay. We lack the defense to be able to pick both a highly touted wideout and a highly touted running back. It's a really bad idea to overpay a running back, especially with our O-Line. Pay Dez. Get a good price for Murray.

Please explain to me what is not special about 1800 yards. And before youy tell me this was the liner, keep in mind what Zach Martin said about green grass and making contact.

The idea he is not special just makes my head want to explode.

Amen.

There's a reason why teams fear him and have openly discussed their fear about him.

TE are TE they are not WR so you can stop your own non sense the pay scale of what you see with WR and TE as vastly different. Gronk is not going to line up outside often he will work the middle vs LB and Safeties vast majority of the time and as a TE has an advantage over that LB, not many WR are being covered by LB's. I do agree the idea is not to overpay, I don't think Dez should be getting a CJ/Fitzgerald contract and I also do not think Murray should be getting an AP or Foster. What I will not do is belittle what Murray has brought to this team and the importance of him to this team

He had almost 400 carries that is why is got so many yards. He doesn't run with power or speed. 1800 yards is special. But Murray is more consistent (with help from our OL) than he is special.

He ran for 4.7 yards per carry and did so with a bad hand in the last few games. He also had a game with Brandon Weeden at QB where we weren't able to throw the ball.

He also broke the record for 100-yard rushing games in a row.

His career yards per carry is 4.8 a pop.

I've never heard any opposing defensive player or coach say anything but Murray running with speed and power. And that's why they fear his ability.

The issue for him in FA is that the RB position is no longer valued like it once was and he did run for nearly 400 carries so there is skepticism about him keeping the pace. But as a player, he is special because he runs for power, speed and turns that speed into power while being able to cut and 'get small' thru the running lanes.

He's not Adrian Peterson as a runner, but Peterson comes along once every 20 years. And Peterson is lousy on passing downs. Outside of pure ability to run the ball (and run it properly), outside of Peterson I can't think of any other tailback in the game I would want.

You're simply wrong. That's all there is o it.

Not going to argue over the definition of 'special' when it probably means different things to each of us, but I'd agree that Peterson is 'special.' I'm not convinced myself that Murray is even the best available running back for Dallas next season. That's not to take anything away from Demarco's 2014 production. I just don't think he's likely to produce similarly next season, and I think there might be backs available to us via FA or the draft who could out produce him. ~440 carries in a season is a lot of mileage.

He also has had way less carries than Emmitt had in his first four years. I don't see why Murray can't be a 1400 yard back here for the next few seasons if he stays healthy.

I think he ultimately returns at a fair but not record breaking deal. Both parties will benefit. At any rate I do feel a lot better about his return the more we get into the offseason.

Why would you bet that Murray would stay healthy?

He played in every game this year but he didn't stay healthy. And was badly worn down.

Saying he was badly worn down is subjective. You've been on record as metaphorically having Adrian Peterson tattooed on your back, too, so I think your views on this issue are somewhat muddied.

Exactly.....

With the number of carries he had....he should have broke 2000. But he wore down.

Paying for past production always gets teams in trouble. He's a nice guy...model citizen...but this is a business. Time to find an upgrade.

Yep let's upgrade over 1800 yards and 13 tds.......

He wore down but yet had over 100 yards in the divisional round

791 yards in the second half of the season. Almost 1600 yards on pace over a 16 game season.

Still pretty damn impressive.

I know, in the first half he set the all time record for consecutive 100 yd games that had lasted over 50 years. He didn't immediately repeat the feat in the second half, what a failure......

Many football players play hurt, some even play injured. Not many at any position are "healthy" (whatever that means) for an entire season. The sport is violent, physical and wearing down just means they are human.

I concur. Get younger or get better.

Better? Murray had the BEST season by a Cowboys' RB ever. Again, that is best season EVER. I guess some people appreciate what they have, others simply have no clue, until its gone.
