The best way coarse of action is to trade him this yr and take on the massive 60 million hit to dead money. This is what the Eagles pretty much did with Wentz, but they did already have Hurts on their roster. With MM returning that isn't going to happen, I say just leave the contract alone.

I love how people want to roll with Trey Lance next year without talking about the fact that, if he's good, they're going to have to give him the same $60m in 2025 lmao.

2024: Lance rookie deal
2025: Lance franchise tag
2026: Lance $65m

THINK PEOPLE
What’s your point? If Lance is good and is able to win a playoff game then that outweighs Dak’s one and done.

Option 4) Resign Dak on team friendly 2-3 year deal in the 35-45 million range. Trey Lance lights it up preseason. Dak has a Dak game. Lance takes over and reignites the offense. Dak is cut post June 2025.
Dak and his agent aren’t going to do that.

Nope. He will have all the leverage as a pending UFA. He can name his price, same as, like, Daniel Jones did.
Jones in no way named his price. He took a well below market rate offer. His contract is less than the contract Dak accepted 3 years prior.

The Giants may suck but at least they didn't chain themselves to an anchor like the Cowboys did.

LOL.

The only way Lance would get $60MM AAV is if he was playing really well.

The lengths you go to in order to defend Dak is pretty impressive, actually.
Nope. He will have all the leverage and will have cap inflation too.

But the number itself doesn't really matter. 55-60-65...it's all the same conversation. That number doesn't really change anything as far as cap allocation.

Do you people not pay attention to QB salaries?

"While the injury risk is probably lower with Prescott you do have to ask yourself what I think was the biggest underlying issue with Romo: if you can not win with Prescott making $40 million a year what makes you think you can win with him at $60 million a year? Really this gets down to an underlying issue of a team not looking for other options at the position so they have a different option, but that is a topic for another day."

My favorite point too! lol

Realistically they have three options....

1) Cut/Trade Dak and roll the dice on Lance doing a Trey Lance impersonation or finding a Baker Mayfield in free agency
2) Extend Dak, keep things mostly as is and continue to win 10-12 games next year but have a likely early playoff exit.
3) Keep Dak, have an aggressive "all in" type of offseason and actually give yourself a shot at a deep run

Spoiler alert....The Cowboys pick option 2
You can't KEEP him at that number or you won't be doing anything aggressively

Wow this is scary. This team never learns. We’re screwed
be even more screwed when we sign micah and them, and we'll be saying the same thing years from now, good thing is, we'll have a young qb on a ROOKIE deal just as dak was

No he didn't.

He sucked and got $40m lol
40 million. Same as Dak three years prior.

81 million guaranteed. Less than Dak got three years prior.

Burrows named his price and got elite market rate last year. Check out his contract, and the other guys who signed last season, then come back and apologize for not knowing what you're talking about.

Burrow was good. You're too hung up on semantics.

IF Lance plays well enough to earn 60 million on the open market, which is highly doubtful, he will deserve the money. That would take a great regular season AND showing he has ice water in his veins in the playoffs.

Most likely if he even is offered a contract it would be a placeholder/backup type deal. By anyone, not just the Cowboys. He's at least two years away from a "market rate" deal, if ever.
