Remember, Dak has to agree to a restructure, or an extension. Dak could deny the restructure because he senses it means he is done in Dallas after this year. Without the possibility of a trade he really is holding all the cards. Jerry really boxed himself in with the first deal.

Think about not extending Dak, letting him walk and getting nothing but a 3rd round comp pick in return - a late third round comp pick. But it is what it is. Jerry is an awful negotiator. His next deal needs to have that trade clause and a built in in out. Give him roster bonuses instead of salary and signing bonus. This would be incentives for Dak to perform. Of course he might not allow it. But Jerry needs to decide if he wants Dak to hamstring him and his team for 5 more years. Then again, if he let's Dak go Jerry will have an undetermined number of year before the Cowboys even return to winning.

I prefer he extend Dak but only if it is a fair deal for Dallas. The only leverage Jerry has over Dak is a willingness to let him walk in 2025. Use that to get what he can, and if it is not enough, the shake hands and walk away from the table.

What?

You are confusing franchise tag and 5th year option or something.

They aren't going to give him his 5th year option, so the franchise tag would be after next season.
Hum, franchise tag for Lance would be even worse for 2025 @ 35M - 40M+

No way they would franchise tag a player that has not played. Trey will be lucky to get a decent back up salary next year and most likely will be off to the USFL or Arena League.

I love how people want to roll with Trey Lance next year without talking about the fact that, if he's good, they're going to have to give him the same $60m in 2025 lmao.

2024: Lance rookie deal
2025: Lance franchise tag
2026: Lance $65m

THINK PEOPLE

But he's 6 years younger and Has not proven to be the Choker we know Dak is . Try harder Tad

Interesting how it says if Dallas decides to go i this direction they should draft a QB this year in the first or second round so they have a future QB in place.

What happened to Trey Lance???!
The board in all it's wisdom already rejected that option...

40 million. Same as Dak three years prior.

81 million guaranteed. Less than Dak got three years prior.

Burrows named his price and got elite market rate last year. Check out his contract, and the other guys who signed last season, then come back and apologize for not knowing what you're talking about.
Haha. Touché

All of this just further proves that we have terrible people negotiating contracts. Again and again, they mortgage the future to keep a mediocre present.
Explain how the current roster is ranked 3 rd best in the NFL in individual production level and compared to cheapness in cost to team as well.

1. San Francisco
2. Baltimore
3. Dallas

(much of Dallas is very young. Just behind Green Bay being the youngest by 4 months)

You just don't support those truths...that is bias for what was stated. You prefer blame. Jerry.

They would be franchising him AFTER he played for a year, in this hypothetical scenario.
