Not surprisingly, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed Sunday that Jason Garrett will return in 2016 for his seventh season as the team’s head coach. “Let me be real clear: There’s no thought of replacing Jason. At all,” Jones said, according to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Twitter link). Jones acknowledged that Garrett’s staff could change, though, as four assistant coaches’ contracts expire (Twitter link via Williams). Whether those changes happen will be up to Garrett, who Jones says is “the ultimate-decision maker” when it comes to the coaching staff (Twitter link via Fox Sports’ Matt Mosley).

Following the final game of his team’s 4-12 season, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones re-delivered the message emphatically when asked about the future of coach Jason Garrett.

“Let me be real clear: There’s no thought of replacing Jason -- at all,” Jones said. “I only say that to get ahead of anything that might be said about me addressing coaching.”

From the time the Cowboys’ season started going south, there’s been some semblance of speculation that Jones might replace Garrett as head coach. It never seemed like an overly realistic thought, given that Garrett just signed a five-year, $30 million contract extension last January after he took the Cowboys to the second round of the NFC playoffs.

Despite that, it’s been a common enough topic that Jones was asked to addresshis head coach’s future several times following the Cowboys’ 34-23 loss to Washington.

“I certainly have evaluated and looked at Jason’s situation, and not interested in any change, or thinking about any change there,” he repeated.

If Sean Payton were to become available, I'd certainly be thinking about it.

Especially considering the prospect of having to deal with Payton ending up in Philadelphia.

What has he done lately?

It's sickening as a fan to be put through this by Jerry.

The only way we as a fan base can get rid of him is if we collectively don't support this team with our money but that will never happen.

You were 12-4 at this time last yr, quit bellyaching.

You lost your qb and your favorite stud! Look how much GB misses Nelson, if they lost Rodgers as well, they would've had as equally as bad a season.

The worse part is the bar is set so low for next year that Garrett will get another free pass. 7-9 or 8-8 will have Jerrah crowing about the great strides Jason made from a 4-12 record.

6 years in one playoff appearance, one winning season. Meanwhile the NFL playoffs are full of coaches with less tenure.

I think Jerry could have just said "There's no thought" and left it at that.

What has Garrett done - EVER?!?!?

I would love to see someone else in charge, that doesn't mean he deserves firing after he lost his 3 best players from the prior season, and he still had his team in position to win most of there games w the lousiest qb play you will ever see!

I'm a fare man: He deserves one more year

You have to remember: this entire staff got new contracts starting this season, you want find many owners or GM who would replace an entire staff one year later.

Well, on the bright side, I think Jerry was referring to the 2016 season. So, maybe, just maybe, if the team stinks next year, Jerry will finally take the blinders off and fire his buddy.
