Cowboys playoff hopes revolved around the defense being much improved

Currently the Cowboys are 31st ranked defense which is not enough improvement from last years 32nd to make a playoff push.

I think most who touted this defense felt it would be at least closer to average which would mean about 16th ranked defense.

I know it’s still early in season and there’s still time but I’d argue the sense of urgency is of the essence . Unfortunately this game may not be the right matchup.

Texans are in a much more must win than the Cowboys. They have been a consistent playoff team last 3 years and while they also begun 0-3 last year they recovered finishing the season 12-2.

While their offense has been struggling they still have a top 10 caliber defense which could slow our high powered offense enough to exploit our defense .

Next week against Tampa another 0-3 team looks to be much more for the taking at home to bounce back to 2-3. And that’s likely where this season is going hovering around .500 or below with this defense.

Philthy is struggling a bit, so maybe if the Cowboys can just keep themselves in contention... Just need that defense to get over the hump soon (if possible). I do think the DL will come around this year, but there's a very real likelihood that they'll be limited by their linebackers.

I don’t think it’s getting better.

The D coaching has been terrible also.

All the stats are in the tank.

Nathan and Downs both appear to be a hit but overall defense hasn’t been.

I expect them to improve as the season goes a long. They just faced 3 qbs that are hard to keep in the pocket.

We shall see. But so far has overall been disappointing.

We have the offensive personnel to overcome this defense, but Shotty is the HC and calls the plays. Let that sink in for a moment. Hopefully he gets fired soon is the only chance this team has. IMO

The biggest issue with this defense early this season was the desperate need for a pass rush. We have none.

The Porter trade makes no sense at this point IMO when the lack of a pass rush still puts all the pressure on the secondary to cover longer than they should have to.

A trade for a pass rusher would have made a lot more sense.

I’m ok with firing Shotty but who are we going to replace him with. No one on our current staff.

And this offense is enough to win some games especially against average to below average teams but we saw what happens when can’t stop opponent and limits offensive possessions.

Regardless how good your offense is it’s entirely too much pressure to expect your offense to score on every possession especially against great defenses.

In the end all we need is closer to an average defense with our explosive offense but the worst defense or closer to bottom won’t be enough.

Your recollection is poor. He has been rumored to be available for trade for several weeks.

And I’m just curious, how would you know about any inquiries teams are making with each other about their players? Do you work for one of them? Honestly curious how you would know all this.
