NFL Character rules, taken people off the board?
I
Terrell Brown?

Is he still on the board?

Will there be more guys dumped in the basket?

Do you have your own checks and balances other than scouts legwork?

Chris Canty?

Have you crossed people off your list for character issues?

You want to get a starter at 22?
T

Help with all those draft picks?

You're looking for a starter?

Bill said he was very wary of drafting a WR in the 1st?

Would you use a current player to juice it up?

What changed to make you think moving is a good idea?

When you look at your best players' you've ever had, they were all top 10 picks, do you want to get that caliber?

How many of those players are there int hsi draft?

Do you need to address the receiver at some point?

When you say bundle, would you do a Ricky Williams type trade?

QB?

Meriweather, get a good look?

Have you talked to him and done your due diligence?

When's the last time you've gone into the draft where you jsut think you can line up and play?

Does this give you a chance to take a flier on guys in the late rounds?

Looking at potential pass-rushers?

So the wow guys are WR?
Character -- Did Q. Carter teach you anything before the league did this new thing?

Is it BPA? Is it that simple?

Trade chart? How much of a role does that play?

Did you guys use it as a weapon early because you were the only ones that had?

How much has Wade had in the draft?

How has it changed without Bill?

Things in the evaluation process that Bill brought?

Is he still one of your consultants?

Have you done that in the past?

Do you need to get a fullback?

Would you draft a guy in the first that you haven't brought in as a visit?

How important are smoke screens?

Thanks Theogt ...... great post

I'd say that Bill was a little more focused on a certain proto-type that were his system. Wade is true to form, he'll take a guy that is drafted for another system and make him work in his system. It's unlikely that you're going to get a bunch of proto-types. Wade is comparing his input, he would emphasize speed. We've always had a speed emphasis. Bill would always joke about calling us the SEC rather than the Mid-Western conference. Coaches in general, by their very nature, their job is to do something different with the player. They want the player to do something different than what he's doing. That's there job -- to coach players. So therein lies what you have to adjust for -- all coaches will admit that you've just gotta accept a player as he is sometimes. Back to Bill, we're looking at more speed, and a willingness to look a little less at size, whether it be small or large. As you know Bill didn't like big RBs. Switzer wanted shorter RBs. We may be willing to look at bigger RBs, or smaller linemen, etc.
Just as we suspected and Thank Gawd.

Bill's approach has definately work. See the Patriots and the 49ers in the 80's

It still works today with the Patriots. That idea of having a "prototype" is very similar to what Pioli and Belichick do with their draft. While other teams might have 500 players on their draft board, the Patriots are said to only have a 100 players on theirs because they disqualify all players that mentally or physically don't fit their system.

Got to agree. I'm not sure there is a player in this draft worth two #1s INCLUDING Calvin Johnson. Hoping this is a smoke screen.

:star:

It's the other way around and I'd love it, I'm not high on this draft.

I kinda get the feeling that the Cowboys might try to move up for Lynch.

I would be ok with that. Lynch would be a weapon in Garretts offense

Here I'm thinking we will be able to get a few players who can help us and now learned Jones thinking about bundling players to move up. Why oh why does Jones have to be cute? How many successes have we enjoyed when Jones has messed around with the draft since Jimmy Johnson left?

I think I will go take an aspirin. We aren't one player away from winning the SB and that's the only reason you move up. We are one player from not winning the division if Ferguson goes down, if Glenn/Henry get hurt/lost a step, etc.

Jerry made the comment a few months back that he could start having fun again with Parcells gone. Why do I think Jones enjoys the limelight so much and thinks he so smart that his ego demands he make a big splash to garner more attention?

I wouldn't hate that, but I'm a bigger fan of the Darren Mcfadden idea.

If he can't trade up for Peterson this year, he'll trade our #1 for a #2 and a #1 next year.
Then next year, he will trade both #1's for Darren McFadden.
That thought definitely crossed my mind while listening. You could certainly read between the lines and come up with that analysis.

The trouble with this McFadden idea, is that unless he gets fatally injured, he's a top 5 pick, right?

Even if we have two #1's next year, there's no guarantee that's enough to move up. Especially not if we have a decent season this year.

True, I still like the "idea" though.

You're probably right...i don't see a team desperate enough to get two #1's out of this draft that is sitting down there in the dregs. We'd have to get lucky.

The mindset that he is putting out that there we dont need help. I think we need all our picks and this team needs help.

He has said about 5 times now that he feels like the team can lineup and win now, and that strikes me as very short sighted.

NOw in 08 if we have two 1's that would be fabulous. If we got another 2 this year, and 1 next year, then I would be applauding.

I am just nervous with the overall tone of not needing much. I see it differently.

geez Louise...he's right...we legitimately could play today with our top 25-28 guys and be fine...we have a good roster

what he's sayingn is exactly what I was talking about two weeks ago...this team is close, if he can add a true impact player it may put us over the top

I wouldnt sell the Ranch to get up too high, but I can definitely see moving up 10-12 spots if they thought that guy could make a legitimate difference (ala, Peterson)

I really doubt that Peterson would drop that far, but if he got to 15 its certainly possible that Jerrah would try- BUT then so would several OTHER teams as well.
Really, who in this draft would make such a HUGE impact this year that we could get without having to go? Peterson possibly, but.......
A thought is only one: GINN.

Ginn isnt going to make that much difference for anyone, its why I dont really want him...and I certainly wouldnt trade anything to move up to get him

I could see a scenario where Peterson makes it into th 7-10 area and maybe even to Buffalo at 12...

yeah we are close, but my point is you always need youth, and if he gets cute and gives picks away or reaches on guys you end up with bad players replacing old players. Like we did a decade ago.

Did you watch the 95 cowboys americas team? Moose, novacek and aikman standing on the field for training camp complaining that jerry builds all these average players up and we havent even practiced yet...?

That is what I am afraid of. I am not knocking our team in any way, but a year from now we can be lacking a fs again, a left tackle, needing a running back....

You just can never go wrong drafting good players, that is my point, dont get cute, just keep getting good players and then let depth and starts sort themselves out.

there you have it...draft good players

1995 we had three 2nd rd picks and wasted them (although Sherman Williams wasnt an awful reach, he was supposed to be a 2nd or early 3rd rd guy)...the problem then was "we want to draft backups"...that was a Jones quote...today, you see Jones say "we want to draft starters"

he gets it now...he didnt then
