Last year, the Cowboys were reportedly engaged in internal debate about whether or not to pick quarterback
Johnny Manziel in the first round.
Owner Jerry Jones was said to be banging the drum for Manziel, but the voices arguing in favor of guard
Zack Martin won out. That was a good thing for the Cowboys as Martin made a good offensive line into the best in the league while Manziel flopped in Cleveland before heading to rehab this offseason.
The Cowboys could still use a young quarterback to back up
Tony Romo now and potentially step in after his career comes to an end at some point down the road, which has put quarterbacks on their scouting list before this year’s draft. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that
they worked out UCLA quarterback
Brett Hundley in Los Angeles on Thursday.
They’ve also spent time with Baylor’s
Bryce Petty and both quarterbacks are seen as prospects that will need some time to acclimate their games to the NFL before they’ll be ready for a starting job. Dallas could provide them with that chance to develop while shoring up their depth chart behind Romo.
