The one argument you can make for Hundlley to Dallas would be that he has the physical tools and needs developing....and Dallas is a great place for him to sit and learn.

I'm just not sure he even has the intangibles. Maybe, I don't know

Lots of players have the physical tools to be qb
Not many make it
Not a fan of Hundley

Before someone says anything, the topic of this thread is more about grooming a backup or even a successor to Romo than a draft article.

I'd like to see someone who can both scramble and make plays as well as be a pocket passer who can also run the ball. I realize they can all run but I'm speaking of someone who runs more 4.5ish than Romo's 5.0ish.

Quincy says hi. :p

Depends on where we draft him but I wouldn't hate it. Like @Alexander I'd be worry about Wade Wilson (not) grooming him. The few pluses with Hundley for me are:
  • He gets to sit and learn behind Romo for 2 maybe 3 years.
  • He's a great athlete
  • The Cowboys can use him in packages to throw some wrinkles at defenses.

I watched some of UCLA's games last season and this guy is just bad. Has absolutely no pocket presence and is painfully slow at going through his progressions.

Reminds me of Vince Young, a great athlete but cant read a defense and if the first read is covered, he takes off running. You can do that in college, especially if you are surrounded by other great players like Vince was at UT. However, in the pros that will never work. Yea, you can look good your first year, like Vince Young winning rookie of the year, but after teams get tape on you and study you, then you are done.

One trick ponies never last in the NFL, and Hundley I am afraid is just that.

From the games I watched, i wouldn't sign him as a UDFA. After reading the hype, I was disappointed to say the least.

Mora also said this about him.
http://ucla.247sports.com/Bolt/Mora-says-Hundley-is-ready-for-NFL-33463110

UCLA head coach Jim Mora says that Bruins quarterback Brett Hundley, who will declare for the NFL Draft, is going to be a "very fine quarterback" at the next level.

"He's got all the physical tools," Mora told the Rich Eisen Show per ESPNLosAngeles.com. "He's big, he's fast, he's strong, he's an incredible kid. He's got high character. He's going to do everything the right way; he's never going to embarrass the franchise. And he's the kind of guy that any general manager, any owner is going to feel comfortable making the face of their franchise because he's going to represent you so well. And he's a kid that's going to work at it religiously. He's going to be in early. He's going to stay late. He's going to come in on days off like Tom Brady does.

Pretty high praise for the 6-foot-4 Hundley, who led the Bruins to a 9-3 record this year against the nation's toughest schedule. Most NFL Draft gurus, including ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. (No. 3), have Hundley as one of the top five available quarterbacks for this spring's draft.

Note that nowhere in there does Mora say anything related to being a QB.

Good size? Yes.
Good character? Yes.
Hard worker? Yes.

Certainly important qualities but it's important at every position. How about QB specific qualities? If one didn't know Hundley was a QB, where in Mora's quote would they be able to determine the position he plays. There's not much.

Mora was content having Hundley run screens and slants all the way down the field. The lack of development is as much an indictment on Mora as it is on Hundley.

Scary thing is I dont think Hundley is on the board at 60

Ive always said dont count this out. Dallas has scouted Hundley and Odighizuwa all yr, they've been to multiple ucla games, talked to them at bowls, combine, and have had interviews with both. Wouldnt be suprised if one of them is drafted by the team.
