Smoke screen to get someone to move up for him at the end of the 1st round

If so, a bit of a waste. So, you are a team at the top of the second round and you did not take Winston or Mariotta. You see that Hundley is being worked out by the Cowboys. Who is going to take that seriously enough to explore a trade up with Dallas or a team ahead of them? I have never understood the strategy.

I wonder if maybe they're doing homework on these guys for four years down the road? They can't possibly expect Romo to last that long?

I think they're doing their due diligence in case one of these guys falls to, say, the fourth round
Realistically,, that's probably where they should end up going.

I knew this was coming. All those meetings with Kendricks: "Hello again, Eric, can you tell us a little more about Brett?"

From the Milwaukee Sentinel-Journal:

Brett Hundley*, QB, UCLA: 6-3, 226. Three-year starter redshirted in 2011. "The physical tools are there," one scout said. "He's going to need time. He's going to have to go to a team that will need to have patience with him and just continue teaching him the game. A team at the top of the second (round) that needs a quarterback might throw him to the fire too early, and he's not ready for that." Operating a zone-read offense similar to the Eagles', his NFL passer rating was 103.7. He also rushed for 1,747 yards (3.6) and 30 TDs. Idolizes Donovan McNabb. "I don't think he can mentally process," another scout said. "His arm and talent are OK. He's got a lot of flaws in his game." Ran 4.63.

I actually think he is an ok prospect but I don't think he'll ever reach the level that you want in your starter.

He takes so many sacks because he is painfully slow going through his progressions, this is going to be exasperate the problem in the NFL.

Shocked no, disappointed yes. This is one of the worst drafts in years at the position. Taking one because you feel compelled to do so is simply the tail wagging the dog.

Look, I want Romo's heir here now as bad as anyone. The Cowboys, if they take one early, are taking an ***-backwards method of ensuring that gets done.

I didn't watch Petty much and he seems to have gotten the most attention. Is there no hope of him ever being a decent QB or is the system he ran in college the reason that there are so many doubts?

Yeah it is the system AND the idea that QBs are just drafted so much earlier than they should be due to need.

If he was a 4th round guy or later...although people still might not like him, chances are it would not be as much against it attitude.

He could wind up being a decent QB down the road. I think he has the brains, work ethic and arm for it. I don't know how much pocket presence he has as if he gets pressure on him he gets rattled...but that can be said for a good number of QBs.

Not sure if you mean "groomer" as in the prospect or who we would have working with them.

With the number of mechanical and technical flaws with Hundley, I would be hesitant to pair him with Wade Wilson, who I have very little confidence in.

Right. Like when Wade went down to Baylor to watch Petty. Scary!

Petty > Hundley

After watching more tape on both prospects, Petty's problems seem more "fixable" than Hundley's.

I watched Grayson yesterday,he throws similar to Brady but his arm is not that good,he need to sort of use his whole body to put the ball in the spot,i think he might be the best prospect outside of Winston and Mariotta but i wouldnt draft him till the 4th.

No...watch him play...It is pretty obvious he is not ready. Mora might be an idiot and a scumball but I think in this specific thing he is being something that we don't hear much about from Coaches...being honest.

Mora also said this about him.
http://ucla.247sports.com/Bolt/Mora-says-Hundley-is-ready-for-NFL-33463110

UCLA head coach Jim Mora says that Bruins quarterback Brett Hundley, who will declare for the NFL Draft, is going to be a "very fine quarterback" at the next level.

"He's got all the physical tools," Mora told the Rich Eisen Show per ESPNLosAngeles.com. "He's big, he's fast, he's strong, he's an incredible kid. He's got high character. He's going to do everything the right way; he's never going to embarrass the franchise. And he's the kind of guy that any general manager, any owner is going to feel comfortable making the face of their franchise because he's going to represent you so well. And he's a kid that's going to work at it religiously. He's going to be in early. He's going to stay late. He's going to come in on days off like Tom Brady does.

Pretty high praise for the 6-foot-4 Hundley, who led the Bruins to a 9-3 record this year against the nation's toughest schedule. Most NFL Draft gurus, including ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. (No. 3), have Hundley as one of the top five available quarterbacks for this spring's draft.

From my limited research, he seems to be s very sharp kid that picks up things fast in the classroom. The other physical tools seem to be there. Maybe the team feels Petty is fully capable of doing what Robert Griffin was not able to do. I have read that Griffin would be better if he wasn't so arrogant and would put the work in. I have not watched much college football , but Petty seems to be the only QB that Dsllas has liked this much. I guess I will have to trust the scouts on this one . It seems like McCkay has really improved the scouting and draft process.

We are at least one year away from even considering Romo's replacement.
Next years draft will be a much stronger QB draft class anyway.
As of now we simply do not need to draft a QB in any round.
If God forbid Romo gets hurt the season is over anyway. And that will really put us in position to get a top QB at the top of round one next year.

ZERO pocket presence. I am a UCLA alumni and watched plenty of games of past three years. He has not shown one bit of improvement there. He leads the nation in sacks over last 3 yrs.

Stay away from the light.

Was really high on Hundley coming into last season... He regressed last year.. I really don't think he will be a good NFL QB.. But I've been wrong before...

Same here, I actually he could have been better then Mariota and Winston. Top 5 physical ability and character. That pocket presense is what kills him
