You can still roll with the same team next year. Even with dak…. But extend him absolutely not. I’d personally give lance a shot.

With some restructuring I’m sure we could get under the cap. But we need some linebackers badly.

So by "past standards" here, Jordan Love has now possibly retired Dakota Prescott.

May as well stay consistent with this retiring thing
Noteable difference: Prescott wasn't 46 and surrounded by marginal talent like Brady was

Two picks last year, two picks this year, they might just start calling him Two Picks Prescott.

You can not win if your QB chokes in the clutch, no matter how great of a reg season he had.

Get rid of him!
Defense player worse than him. D couldn’t stop them once lol

Nah bro. Defense didn't even do anything. NOTHING.

Dak threw a pick 6 and took that sack...not really digging him for much else. I know...3 score games are now garbage time...

I don't even know why I bother with all of these overly emotional fans.
you are amazing

The defense was terrible. I’m not arguing that.

There’s no excuse for 2 turnovers and 7 points scored in the first half at home.

None, zero, zilch, nada.

Yes...let's cut him and pick high in the draft for the foreseeable future. Great idea.

Literally just had an MVP type season and people want to cut him because of a pick 6...lol

How about we get a good defense that actually can get some stops so a few mistakes don't turn into people thinking this is a madden offseason?
He's won 2 playoff games in 8 years, and looked pretty bad in most of the postseason losses. Sure, keep running it back and expecting different results.

I'd just as soon try something else. It may not work, but with 4 playoff wins since the 90s I'm kind of used to it not working.

You’re not competing for 2/3 years with rookie qb
Probably not, though the Texans seem to be doing just fine with their rookie qb.

But for me, I want to win SBs, and I'm willing to wait for 2-3 years rather than never getting one again....

Dak looked shell-shocked from the start. I can live with pick-sixes and mistakes -- but he looked straight-up shook. That first half was bizarre to watch.

And you're right, there were 50-some other culprits to blame. But at our core, we were an offensive team that rode and died with our passing game. With the defense struggling early, we needed our offense to put up a counter-punch to keep us in the game.

The defense was awful but we had 16 points going into the 4th quarter after giving them 7 as well with the pick 6. It didn't matter if the defense was even average. That's not going to get it done.

We can't compete early on with a rookie QB? Well we aren't contenders now and won't be with Dak here. There is nothing anyone can point to as evidence Dak makes this team a viable threat to make a deep playoff run. Cutting him is a no brainer. But Jerry won't do it.

According to Spotrac, Dak right now counts 59 mil against the cap in 2024.

The cowboys are right now projected to be 11 million over the cap.

The cowboys can’t carry a cap number that high for the QB. So their two options are: extend him or cut him.

Extending him allows them to spread money out further down the line and save space on the cap on 2024.

Cutting him post June 1 saves them 31 mil in 2024.

cutting him would save 18 mil against the cap.

Dak’s contract was designed to either be extended this offseason OR for the cowboys to move on.

As such, now’s the time to move on. You can’t extend Dak given how things went down again this season.

Cutting him plus making other moves with some contracts (cut Gallup, restructure players, resign Ceedee, etc) will add additional cap space putting the cowboys in actually decent shape cap wise.

The time has come to cut him and move on. Whether that’s giving Lance a season to see what he has or drafting a QB right away THIS offseason.

The time has come.
I agree 100%. This was the best team we’ve had and the best playoff scenario since 2016. This was Dak’s best chance to win and prove he’s a big time player. He literally threw it away. Time to move on. Cut Dak, coach up Lance and maybe pick up a cheap veteran as a stop gap. I personally would be very happy going into next season with Lance battling for QB1 with either another rookie or a cheap veteran.

It's not often that a 12-win team with a 2nd Team All-Pro QB finds itself in a pickle ... yet, here we are.

There is a fundamental roster construction problem with making someone with Dak's postseason history the highest-paid player in the game. And yet, for all the hype about firing McCarthy and hiring a big-name replacement, how desirable is this job if we’re starting over at the QB position?

The middle ground is just to run it back and hope to hang another divisional banner.
I'm all for not making him the highest paid player in the league. I would hope he would be reasonable but probably won't.

Play hardball with him....if he want to bet on himself for 59 mill...go right ahead.

We can construct the roster even with that number...it will just be harder. He should want to take a good deal that let's them put a great roster around him. If he doesnt...then do what you have to do.

People are not wanting to cut him after one bad playoff performance.

They are wanting to cut him because of YEARS of bad playoff performances. The defense was bad tonight but Dak didn’t give his team a chance to win. At home against a team that was clearly not as good as them.
