Cowboys re-sign Danny McCray

I don't know? You don't either.

The draft is coming up, so maybe they can snag a good young player there?

The off season is just getting under way, none of us know what is going to happen with the oline.

Given their track record, I think you can understand my pessimism.

I do understand. And, I feel the same way about the oline. But, giving some money to a good special team player is not going to stop them from upgrading the oline.

Now, if the Cowboys don't do nothing to upgrade the oline because they signed this guy, then I'm with you.

Wow!

What are you trying to do here?

Justify paying a special teams tackler $1.3 million, or making me feel even worse by bringing up the debacle of 2009?

Fair enough.

But what does it say when they aren't doing so?

It says they are waiting to see how the draft plays out.

For crying out loud, McCray signs the tiny contract (by NFL standards) and you're acting like the world is coming to an end. It's 1 point 3, not 13 in case you read it wrong. He's contributions on ST cannot easily be matched by just anyone. If we find someone who plays nearly as well in training camp, McCray will get cut.

And it won't cost the Cowboys a DIME. The hand wringing of some in this thread is absolutely laughable.

I do.

While this team sits on their hands thinking that everyone else will wait for them, other teams are still doing business.

Signing Winston or Clabo to a deal in no way prevents you from drafting someone next week.

But there's no guarantee either will be available after the draft. None.

With this team's pathetic track record with the offensive line, they should be putting every possible resource into fixing their biggest failure and weakness.

There isn't, but right now the market is obviously not taking the bait on Winston wanting 3-4 million. Signs are pointing towards teams looking at O-Line in the draft first and then turning towards free agency if they do not get what they want.

Danny Mcray is what he is, a very very good st guy who is able to play some nickel and dime packages.

If you all want a reason as to why we cant sign Eric Winston or Tyson Clabo dont blame the Mcray deal.

Take a look at extending a declining Jay Ratliff to the tune of 8m/yr, the continued pushing out of Doug Frees money, having miles austin take 8-9m/yr for being a #2 WR. Blame those moves all you want not a deal for 1.3m.

And they're not alone in doing that.

Any other team that doesn't fill its' own needs will be looking too.

And $1.3 million for a special teams tackler is 'tiny', but $3 million for a quality starter at a huge area of weakness is too much?

Bizarroland.

Says the guy, who had to write a whole explanation about why Danny is still on the team.

Just stop

Tiny contract? By Nfl standards? Are you just making stuff up?

My god, i know you love the guy, but take a step back.

McCray was a liability last year. He hurt us, way more than he helped us. Tell me I'm wrong, show me in the many videos that it's not him getting burnt.

We can even say for the sake of argument that they have enough money.

Then their thinking is that McCray is worth $1.3 million to make special teams tackles while Winston is not worth $3 million a year to start at right tackle and give up just 3 sacks?

Can you see some flawed logic happening here?

We have no way of knowing that the team can actually sign Winston for $3M.

He has been cut from 2 teams in less than 2 years and there are rumors that he has degenerative knee issues.

If they cut McCray, then they have to replace him with somebody. The minimum for that would be about 400K with means to McCray is a 900K premium over a rookie. I don't really think that 900K is keeping them from signing Winston.

Not signing Winston might or might not be a bad idea; however, it really has nothing to do with re-signing Danny McCray.

McCray is a fine special teamer. Hopefully, he never sees the field during defensive snaps.

Just Winston himself saying so.

And there are facts that show Doug Free sucks. I'll take the guy with the 'rumors'.

"I'd like Eric Frampton for $850k Alex!"

Any way you look at it, it shows a serious issue in player evaluation to me.

You're either not signing him because you're strapped by paying JAG's like this or too dumb to know an opportunity to significantly improve when it's presented to you.

Not good either way.

Me too...!

I hope the team stays healthy this year.

I'm having a hard time believing many of the reports that are coming out recently. Many are turning out to be false.

I'm in the front of the line of people that will agree that Doug Free sucks and needs to be cut on June 1st.

Yes, I think posted that I thought they would re-sign Frampton because he is a similar Special Teams players but a better backup Safety. I guess it's possible that he thinks someone will pay him more than minimum.

I'm still not certain that Danny McCray's non-guaranteed contract is keeping them from signing any Free Agents that they want.

I heard the interview on Sirius/XM NFL radio myself. He stated his asking price.

I'm in front of you in line, I want him gone today!

That's my thinking. Frampton was replacing McCray as the season went along. Though I very much think he would sign for less than what they've elected to pay McCray.

Either that or common sense...
