We weren't going into week one with a rookie backup QB backing up a 2nd year starter.

We don't even have a QB on the Practice Squad, do we? I'm really surprised by that!

We need Moore; he knows the offense, and while Rush has outperformed him, we haven't see Rush vs. a game day, more complicated D-scheme with lots of disguise and blitz. Can he make the calls?

It's my guess that if Dak were out for a few plays or a quarter, they'd be more comfortable with a veteran presense. If Dak went down for the season, it's pretty much over, so they'd go with Rush to develop and see what he's really got. But if you have big time aspirations for 2017, you just can't have a backup undrafted rookie QB as your only option. You may even need Moore to run the scout team offense, since his knowledge of systems has to be better than Rush's. Would you want your undrafted rookie backup preparing for each week's defense and also trying to run the scout team offense?

We had to bring in a veteran. I guess they think Moore is the most comfortable option, for Dak and the staff.

The non-game planned nature of preseason games and the unpredictability of udfa type WRs was probably a killer for Moore. His only real skill is being smarter than a lot of other QBs but that skill really doesn't show up well in the conditions of preseason games.

That wasn't the case last yr...13-3 with basically the Clubs 3rd stringer.;):).

Who played in the SEC against NFL speed, not a small school against the likes of Eastern Kentucky Tech. Consider how much Goff, Lynch, Hackenberg, and even Wentz, struggled their first seasons.

Granted, this is the easiest offense for a young QB to be successful in, but they want Moore's experience early on. This is temporary.

Backup quarterbacks are irrelevant.

Then explain their insistence on keeping around a guy who can't play at the NFL level?

If Eli gets hurt, we get Geno Smith. Give me Kellen Moore over Geno Smith. LOL

So bad vs worse? One team's mistake somehow makes our own acceptable?

You want to bash Geno Smith, but I'm willing to bet that he's won more than 0 games in his career.

How many Dak's have you seen in the entire time you've watched football? The second thing I would say is that we've only seen one year of Dak.

Either way, I like this Rush kid but I don't think he's Dak Prescott.

I didn't say he was. I simply ferreted the notion that Rush would be "ruined" by having him play in arguably the most talented offense in the entire league.

There's no disputing that he handled what was asked of him during the preseason much better than Moore ever did.

A few thoughts.

Dak's maturity so young is the exception not the rule...

Rush came from a small school...

Dak played and had high level success in the SEC....

Rush was undrafted signaling that every team. In the NFL thought he was not a high level NFL player...

Dak was drafted in the fourth and fell a bit due to off field concerns..

But other than that yeah both situations are identical.

I never said he was Dak Prescott. But thanks for playing.

I said that playing didn't "ruin" Dak any more than it would "ruin" Rush.

The fact is that Rush outplayed Moore in every conceivable way possible. Argue that.

Why not? They proved to be the best two QBs on the team. I just don't get the thinking that somehow Moore is going to all of a sudden save the day if he has to play. Rush proved he is much more likely to give the team a chance to win. He is the one that should play if Dak goes down.

Hopefully two games "temporary". Replace one Moore with another in three weeks.

Comment A: Playing early could harm Rush.

Your comment: Playing early didn't harm Dak.

My comment: Dak and Rush are very different prospects with very different high level football experiences and pedigrees.

Your comment: I never said they were comparable and oh here is a random comment about Rush outplay in Moore which everyone agrees with and wasn't part of the discussion that I'm going to insert here as a decoy.

I would say Moore is the Nick Hayden of quarterbacks but that's just giving him to much props.

Mentally, he knows the offense probably better than Dak. He would play much better if he was out there with the starting offensive line, receivers, and Zeke.

The key word there is "preseason". Facing real blitz schemes of All Pro players is different than vanilla reads against 2nd and 3rd stringers.

I love Rush, we all do. But if I was a coach I wouldn't bet the season on a UDFA being able to deliver under pressure when he has never been asked to do so. Even if we had a once-in-a-lifetime player do it last year.
