I liked Elam a lot and thought he showed a lot of potential. The problem is that most of the potential he showed was in pre season, so we never got a feel for him as a regular season player agains starting NFL players. It's just not fair or reasonable to make judgements about how he fit when we just don't have much to judge by.

Yup.

I always liked him too. I like Killer more. He is a big part of the team when we arent expecting him to hold down FS. Brown is very intriguing if he sticks. Possibly more "upside" than them both. Elam got caught in the numbers.

I personally felt that Elam had more potential at FS while Davis had more at SS. This year we have Hamlin, Watkins and Brown at FS, so there really wasn't any extra room.

I hated losing Moore..but Bartel may prove to be even better...Who Knows.

As far as regrets?????? They probably will not be know for a few years down the road.

I was torn between the 2 myself. Me thinks Bartel has the better physical tools of the 2, but Moore was more of a gamer.

I'll take more of a gamer anytime.

But, like Cbz40 said, we just wont know how this plays out for a few years. The odds are really against both guys.

Every year its always the same, somebody's pet cat gets cut and they cry themselves a river and annoy the heck out of the rest of us.

Well, it's not quite that simple. Moore did look pretty good this summer, and we didn't get to see much of Bartel, so yes, that pet cat looked pretty good to a lot of us. It's been a long time since the Cowboys had two quarterbacks on a team that looked pretty good, who also had some long term developmental prospects.

Me three. and it kills me because i was sure he was going to clear waivers. doesn't really mean anything to get claimed. rob petitti, montavious stanley and willie blade were claimed too after we cut them also.

I thought the odds were that he would clear waivers, but I still thought there was at least a reasonable chance someone would pick him up.

Apparently Carolina thought he looked like a pretty solid prospect.

he wasnt the 2nd coming of Aikman or Elway...they made a decision that they needed another position player more than a developmental, clip board carrying 3rd QB that was a crap shoot to develop anyway

I can live with it...the draft is full of Matt Moore type players every yr

David

I agree. Plus, I think we already struck gold (hopefully) with Romo. What is the chance of that happening twice with another undrafted rookie free agent? Probably slim to none.

I'm still trying to figure out how Elam would help the corner situation considering other than special teams he wouldn't see the field.
There is no guarantee that Elam would have even been active being the 5th or 6th safety which makes his special teams contributions irrelevant.

Every year the last minute roster cuts are the subject of much debate and concern. Then, as soon as they start playing the real games, it's all forgotten.

Elam was one of those diamonds in the rough who got cut.

heh heh! that's clever!

Seriously, Elam was always around the ball and hit people ala Roy Williams.
