I like the future too, just not as much as I once did. And poor personnel decisions weaken that faith in the future. The "holes" this team has were of their own doing. Every choice they had to make was the wrong one.

You are repeatedly omitting the biggest decision, which was what netted the 4 compensatory draft picks.

The only way we get those 4 picks...the only way we sweeten our cap situation...was to allow players to leave and stick to low-budget signings.

The four players we brought in? We are talking 3 thrift-shop signings and one trip to K-Mart. Those four didn't work out...it's no big deal.

For me I don't understand why you don't draft the replacement for a guy the year before he leaves if you don't think you are going to resign him?

To replace the entire secondary with rookies and journeyman types is dumb and short sighted.
The journeymen, yeah, but the rooks, specifically Lewis, have been solid. I wouldn't trade him for Carr and Claiborne in a fantasy land trade. Woods has been playing well also and, if Chido can get over his ailments, I would have them all starting over the incumbents NOW.

Those drafted DB's can straight up play. I look forward to them introducing us fans to a new era of the Cowboy's Secondary.

It really isn't a big deal.

The biggest deal maybe the situation with the #1 DT spot and I'm not sure it's been the big negative in the running game. To me the problem has been the play of the MLB and the DE's not having containment.

Probably going to fail another drug test, or maybe get picked up for shoplifting, or has a teenage paternity suit, or a bar fight, or one of the other extracurricular pastimes.

so by that logic, with no free agents of consequence to lose this off-season, and some decent cap room, we could be free agent players this off-season ?

I'm seriously asking. I could live with that approach as a one-time thing, just not as an overall philosophy.

It's a pretty shoddy offseason. I mean if you want to argue it's not the worst offseason of all time, have at it, but that seems just arguing for the sake of arguing at that point.

This was not exactly the best offseason for a team that was coming off a 13-3 #1 NFC seed season.

Definitely should have spent on one impact guy over bring in 3-4 mediocre vets. Would have rather we kept Leary or McClain.

They would have lost one pick by keeping Carr, a fifth rounder or a 6th rounder for keeping Claiborne . And they'd have a starting cornerback. Now, they have $4 million down the drain and Bene Benwikere and no 6th round pick next year. And since you're so keen on keeping track, Paea cost them a 7th round pick to sign, and now has left them with a huge hole a team 1-tech.

The four players we brought in? We are talking 3 thrift-shop signings and one trip to K-Mart. Those four didn't work out...it's no big deal.

It is a "big deal" especially when you've got nothing but $4 million in sunk costs, followed up by likely costing you a 6th round pick for Benwikere due to the Carroll screwup.

Or when you now have to bring up practice squad guys and hope they can handle a starting defensive tackle position.

There's no way you can spin this where it's not terrible. None.

Moore raised a fist post anthem too so that is part of this decision.

They've said that neither the anthem thing nor the altercation was a factor. Strictly football related according to them.

I agree with you for the most part, but the 1-tech being a complete non-factor sure hasn't helped matters any.

Bingo, that’s the real problem, who was allowed to leave this offseason. Having said that we’re probably 5-1 or 4-2 if Irving, Lee and Hitchens had played all 6 games.

What?!?!?

And risk our 2019 compensatory picks!?!?!

Not on your life!

Have you heard nothing this man has said?

Can't argue with that.

But I'll tell ya I kinda like Collins at the #1 and Irving at the #3.

We'll see how it plays out.

That being posted... I think they draft a DT early come April.

We won't get any anyway. Which potential free agents will earn a comp pick? Kyle Wilber? Alfred Morris?

So since precious comp picks are at risk, we should be able to sign decent free agents and you know, get better?

I haven't studied our cap situation, but it definitely helped give us more options. So we gained 4 draft picks plus more financial flex moving forward.

I looked up and found this info regarding Paea retirement:

"When a player retires, the team has the option to pursue the return of a portion of the signing bonus equal to the unplayed portions of the contract, and that money is no longer counted against the salary cap. This is typically done through an arbitrator."
He wasn't pricey to begin with. It would be about $1.3 mil in savings, based on playing only 1/3 of season.

I can't say that I do. I'm seeing too much of Collins getting blown off the ball already at the 3-tech. I think he'd be even worse at the 1-spot.

Give me a powerful big guy that demands double teams on anything resembling a consistant basis and frees up the rest to do one-on-one work.

I also would like to see one drafted early. Forget about what Marinelli "likes". Not working. And if it gets him to quit? All the better.
