RELEASED Cowboys Release DE Damontre Moore

I mean it's so obvious to see but I just guess some struggle to criticize the org at times. So they argue in weird absolutes where signing a guy like Carroll is the only real option they have other than blowing your cap signing a Gilmore or Bouye.

The dishonesty in that type of debating is hilarious.

But it's consistant. Fandom taints reason. A guy comes in and he's suddenly better than he's ever shown in his career. He leaves? He was never that good anyway.

Some people think it's required of fans to make excuses and absolve obvious mistakes.

I've never subscribed to that nonsense, and I never will.

Only $8M? That is some serious money.
In hindsight, yeah it would have been much better to sign Poe and none of the others. But at the time, the team needed DBs first to cover for the loss of Church, Claiborne, and Carr.

Hyde for $6MM per.

A much better SS than Heath.

The reality is they had so many holes on D they could literally have spent money anywhere - S, CB, DT, LB.

But they went after players they thought could play. And thought they were making shrewd moves that would pay off. It didn't work out. Their FA plan bombed.

Exactly.

Denver - Ware, Talib, etc. FAs.

NE - Bennett, Hogan, Long, Sheard. FAs.

We can do this all day.
The NE guys were mid- to bottom-level signings, so nice try. Denver's lone SB is the one the FA-centric folks point to as their hope. It's all they've got.

Yes gotta mix the draft with good solid FA signings.

Exactly. The ideal strategy here, especially as we enter the prime years of Prescott, the OL and Elliott, would be to continue to draft to stay young but then use FA to fill key holes. And by using FA, not the bargain bin of toys with missing parts, but rather that sweet middle tier where you saw guys like Hyde, Poe, etc.

Yes a big whiff in the FA market this year no doubt. Why in gods name they keep thinking they can sign crap and make them good. Again it comes down to the team thinking they can fit anyone in the Marinelli defense and he can make them great!

Marinelli is responsible here as well. He's brought enough of his cronies and pet cats through Dallas and the results have always underwhelmed.

Where's that Joey Ivey gif? And where's Joey Ivey?

Except that's what people are saying............ mid tier FAs. That's what Dallas should be doing. Finding one or two mid tiered guys that plug big holes.

Sheard was a mid-tiered FA signing. So was Bennett.

Why are you constantly trying to make it out like people are suggesting the Cowboys blow all their cap space on the top tier, over priced FAs? No one has suggested that. Stop. What people have said is that the Cowboys miss an entire wide chasm of mid level FAs because the front office is too busy shopping the bargain bin thinking they are outsmarting everyone in the process.

Yep.

Paea was his guy. Now in fairness, he got hurt but he was an oft injured guy so they knew the risk. Carroll was a Marinelli guy who Rod had chased for two offseasons.

Frankly, I think they give Marinelli too much say on personnel.

The other concern I have is are good FA not willing to come here and play? Playing here has its pressures, with the fan base and being on a high profile team. Not to mention dealing with the Jerry circus

so apparently according to the fan's Jeff Cavanaugh it sounds like some kind of issue?

You guys can drop the idea that I'm trumpeting this offseason as some big win for the FO, because that is something I haven't done. Just pointing out that it's A. Too early to say it is the worst or among the worst ever and B. A complete overreaction to do so because we cut some bottom-of-the-barrel FA signings.

I'm not saying "worst ever". I'm saying awful. Nothing done to help a 13-3 team improve. In fact, you took pieces of that team away and replaced it with - nothing.

And two of these misses weren't "bottom of the barrel signings". Carroll and Thornton, and then Paea were counted as starters when this season began. People can spin that any way they want, but that's the truth.

Because in FA you get good players paid like they're great and decent players paid like they're good. It's the ultimate seller's market and it makes more logical sense to not play that game. For every FA signing that works out there are three that don't. The odds suck and can have serious ramifications on the salary cap. At least the long odds in the draft don't ruin your ability to make any moves the next few seasons.

Haven't you heard???......Randy Gregory is coming back to town.....and he's bringing RoMc with him!

$2 million/year is pretty low end as far as FA goes. But it's not a point worth arguing.

I mean this can't be surprising. A guy who has had locker room and off the field issues does it again and gets cut?

That's the least surprising news story on the Cowboys all season.

Don't forget Taco.

Taco was his and Garrett's guy during the draft. The two of them made that call. And both can pay for it.

I'm done with Marinelli. If he wants to stick around and coach the defensive linemen they give him? Fine. But he's no coordinator, nor judge of talent.

i blame dr dre for DM's release.

If dr dre never made beats by dre headphones DM wouldn't be so cucu for coco puffs.

If that's the case, he deserved it. He talked like he was getting it, but maybe his actions didn't match the talk?

Either way, it's still a miss for the front office. Among several.
A foreseeable miss.

Wait, Moore has some character issues and we signed him anyways? Then he gets cut?
