uh oh. The greedy quarterback surrendered money back to his boss. This is the kind of cooperation between boss and employee that might favorably lengthen their partnership for several more years. Will CowboysZone survive this latest news? Stay tuned true believers!
Not really how it works.

Players get their 2023 salary now as a bonus which allows the team to push the cap hit into future years.

Players get paid the same exact amount as before the restructure.

one point missing is the salary cap is expected to jump up big in 2024 through 2027. No doubt Cowboys will have to eat some in dead money but should be able to do so if needed

Anyone know if Dak and Martin or for that matter any player that restuctures has to pay a fee to the agent for the adjusted contract ??

The agent will get his cut now (since it is paid out immediately as a bonus) instead of through the course of the year (if he was paid in game checks). He is getting the same cut either way.

Dak is giving up zero money.

In fact, he's getting a chunk of his money a lot faster.

Nobody's doubting that, but the CAP raises for everyone, and we've got some expensive position setting deals, if we overspend (or have too much Dead Money) we wont be in a position to outbid for our own stars.

There's always a way to get under the CAP, but if we hadnt traded Coop and Randy had signed we would still be in CAP deficit this year. CAP HELL is a position where you can't compete for top FA's and because you cant use signing bonus to push CAP into the future you have to dumpster dive. That's the case when you've got two consecutive seasons where your CAP is stretched to the limit.

Cowboys are doing as all other teams do. This is not isolated to the Cowboys. Our focus is on the Cowboys but look around the NFL Eagles have 54 mill in dead money this year yet we have some who will tell us that we should follow how they do business.

Basically they have given themselves the season to decide what to do. The draft will be very interesting. I'd be shocked if they didnt draft a QB. The question is who and how early.

What other teams have does effect us....that's why we overpay OUR GUYS as in most every year we are so short of CAP Space (compared to other teams) that we know if the player hits FA we are unlikely to be able to compete.

Just saying the CAP's increasing needs to be put in context, rather than the caveman analysis of 'have CAP, spend CAP'.
