Why would they push his money back?

His contract ends after the 2017 season, and they aren't going to cut him before then, so it makes very little difference.

In fact, my guess is they're going to throw his contract out in 2017 and resign him to a deal that lets him retire a Cowboy and is generally team friendly.

Especially since his standing cap hit for 2017 was over 12 million.

Hardy got himself kicked out of the league it looks like.

I think his locker room and going crazy on the sidelines is the reason why he is out of the league now. If he would've just done his job and walked a straight line he'd be back in the league.

Maybe it's so they have the option to cut Romo should Dak show well and Romo get reinjured. If Dak proves to ready to go now, you have to get Romo's contract off the books as soon as possible so you can start rebuilding the defense.

FRISCO, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys restructured the contract of 10-time Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten, creating $2.75 million in cap room.

The Cowboys converted $5.5 million of Witten’s $6.5 million base salary into a signing bonus, which reduced Witten’s cap number from $8.612 million to $5.862 million. Witten is signed through 2017 and is set to make $7.4 million next season with a cap figure of $12.262 million.

Witten’s is the third contract the Cowboys have restructured in the last week. They re-worked Orlando Scandrick's contract to create $3 million in cap room. They added a $2 million roster bonus to Sean Lee's contract that increased the linebacker’s cap figure by $250,000. Early in the offseason the Cowboys restructured the deals of left tackle Tyron Smith and defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford to create cap room.

People wanted to downplay it but the sideline incident slapping the clipboard out of the coach's hand didn't play well in other league offices.

Do you know how much accelerated signing bonus that would add? Romo cannot and will not be cut.

Likely nobody. We've restructured a few guys lately and haven't signed anybody
There is a small chance we are waiting until after week one to save on guaranteed money/contract. I'm still hoping to see a trade happen for a quality DE. Slim, I know.
