Players drafted in the 3rd to 7th round rarely make any kind of impression in their careers..no point in expecting anything out of them.
From what I've seen, players drafted after the 65th pick rarely turn out to be anything significant.
Lawrence was a monster last year wonder if it's the roids that helped him.

3rd rounders are good players all the time.
I really like Collins.

There are also probably a lot of undrafted guys out there that would have been stars in the NFL if they have been given a chance or had not given up. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, or in your terms, when he was drafted.....

Ten most underrated defensive prospects in 2016 NFL Draft

Maliek Collins, DT, Nebraska: Collins (6-1 7/8, 311, 5.03) is very athletic with speed and strength (25 bench lifts). He has very good ability to get off blocks and make plays. He has long arms. If you want to get a starting nose tackle in the second round, this is your guy.

Just for fun...

There are over 700 starters in the NFL (22 x 32)
There are only 64 players drafted in rounds 1 and 2 each year.
But there are over 160 players drafted in rounds 3-7.

So, duh....there's a much greater chance of finding starters in rounds 3-7 than in round 2 over the years, simply because there are better odds if not better athletes.

Something that hasn't got much attention here, is that this whole group of pretty young and very developing defensive linemen, will be coached by both Leon Lett and the Cowboys' most recent Hall of Famer, Charles Haley. Think those two will be motivators in a Marrinelli driven system?

I don't know about cornerstone, but I'd be very pleased with him being a good nickel pass rusher for 25-30 snaps.

So if this guy bust who do we blame? I want names up front. JJ, Rod or Mclay...in which order?

Does this mean we try to make Crawford our LDE this year?

No, that is a hypothetical worse case scenario. Strong chance Tank Lawrence wins his appeal, but if not David Irving would be my bet for that spot and Jack Crawford is originally a SDE as well.

I think we have DLaw, Russell and JCrawford at SDE
TCrawford, Collins and Irving at 3T
Thornton and TMcClain at 1T
Gregory, Tapper and Mayowa at WDE

if we can get some decent pressure up the middle, that will go a long way to improving our defense. Crawford was beat up last year, so hopefully this is a rebound year for him. If Collins can provide some heat himself, and rest Crawford, that's great news.
