Cowboys Set To Work Out Four Veteran QBs - J.Johnson, M Flynn, C.Ponder and McLeod Bethel-Thompson

If people remember in the PS Weeds went out with a concussion when somebody just fell on him. We need a backup. My issue is who gets cut? Another DT?? I hope not!

If no Orton I go with Ponder. At least Ponder can scramble a little.

Jerry just interviewed and said there is no guarantee that any of these guys will be signed. I think they are expecting someone to have to really impress them or they may just want to know the best option as insurance down the road. None of these guys are signing to replace Weeden unless Weeden falls off a cliff.

I don't expect any of them to come in and beat out Weeds, but he is a statue. One blitz and he might be in la la land!

I think Ponder is the best of who is available .

Garrett will figure it out and Linehan.

I think you have to look now at who has the best chance to also be in consideration to develop to ultimately replace Romo.

This injury added to all the rest in the last 5 years starts to really close the window on Romo's career.

You don't keep coming back from this stuff and get better.

It's time to rebuild the QB situation now..

and unless we plan on going 3-13 or something in order to draft somebody..

a plan has to be created and done.

I like Romo but...

Great post. I agree. If you are going to take the time to bring in a third string QB (2nd string currently), at least let it be a guy who you may be able to develop to eventually replace Romo. Ponder is probably that best shot. He was an early round draft pick by the Vikings and showed some flashes early on. No guarantee but it's better than signing Flynn, who has no shot at eventually replacing Romo. Who knows, you might end up with the next Kurt Warner or Bret Favre...just sayin'.

Bottom line Dallas has 1 QB on the active roster unless they plan on bringing Moore up from PS Dallas needs to get a backup on this roster pronto. Randle/McFadden as #2 QB is not going to cut it.

Idk I trust Moore cause he knows he system and we are looking for a back up for Weeden people making it seem like we looking for someone to play ahead of Weeden, now if Weeden plays poor then consider but as of now just need a veteran who will be capable of coming in Incase of Weeden being hurt.

But then it's another game lost that we don't need. If Weeden goes out there Sunday and lays an egg and then we sign a QB, it'll take probably 3 weeks for him to be ready in our system. That's another extra game we could lose. We need to be proactive in this.

The longer this goes point to Kellen Moore being called up. At least he's been here a few weeks and should know enough to finish a game. In fact, I don't see how you can go any other way at this point. The backup QB for this Sunday has to know the plays and Moore is probably the only guy available that you can say that about.

If it will take three weeks, then what good is he this week or the next? Moore is really the only option for having a backup QB this Sunday that at least knows the plays.

For what it's worth, Ponder was the 11th overall player selected in the 2011 draft. He had a decent rookie season and had a very good season in 2012 for the Vikings, but struggled some in 2013, before getting injured. If nothing else, he is a first round talent and certainly worth taking a flier on. I'm sure he has more to offer that Kellen Moore. Who knows how good he could be if he sat behind Romo for a couple of years. As for the others, Johnson has been terrible in the NFL and Flynn was a seventh round draft pick basically who had one good game and has been terrible ever since.

He won't be ready this week. We are stuck with Weeden but what I'm saying is Romo is going to be out for 8 weeks. If we lose the next 3 games and fall to 2-3 with both Weeden and Moore playing poorly then at least one of these QBs will be ready by then. Maybe it won't make a difference but it would be our only shot. If we win the next couple of weeks then nothing will be lost.

How do you propose getting both Moore and Flynn on the roster this week? You have to bring Moore up now for this Sunday and you need Flynn in now to start learning. You can get one spot by putting Romo or Dez on IR/return but you will have to cut someone for the other spot. Who is that going to be? Maybe Hanna because he is injured? I wonder if they can get away with IRing him for the season now?

Understood.

My heart lives and dies with him.

He reminds me of Don Meredith.

Always getting injured..

showed flashes of brilliance but struggled in the big games.

Finally had to call it quits.

Danny White is another one.

We've had a few.

Yeth, but Danny and Dandy half more charisma, better playoff records and were paid 1/5th as well.

To me, Romo will always be a poor man's Danny White, no more no less. With any luck, he can come back, lead us into the playoffs and show us his postseason acumens.

When did Danny have any charisma?

Plus Ponder is also already familiar with Garrett's offense. If have to go with one of these guys, my vote is Ponder.
