I'm not interested in Lance, but I do concede from a pure raw tools standpoint, he had massive upside.
Big+. Fast+. Very strong arm.

The league chases high ceilings, for obvious reasons. But wow...this guy barely even got his feet wet in college, and was so far from ready.

My hunch is that we're about to see Lance crash out of the league, followed by Anthony Richardson. With Fields or Allen the guys had similar ceilings, but that came with a much bigger body of work and more college success. Theses NFL GMs are crazy gamblers sometimes.
I'd pick him up if they cut him, sure, but now way am I paying the 5 mil/per for the next 2 years.

Of course I didn’t. I’d never sit a guy who just went on a 10 game winning streak.

You’re batting hard for Purdy but you are not understanding what I’m saying. Lance should be starting based on how good he was suppose to be. Purdy is hurt last I read. This was suppose to be Lances time to shine and he’s third string. That has nothing to do with how good or bad he is.

Btw, 49ers fans are pissed for what it’s worth. More so about Darnold.
Did you mean to say everything? Lance is 3rd on the QB roster because of how terrible he is.

Hard pass

Dudes a bust. Imo will probably fade out of the league 3-4 years after his contract is up

Name me some QBs that came out and won 8 straight games including 2 playoff wins and then never did anything again in their career... as rookies especially.
I actually watched his games... he played incredible. No fluke here.
Yeah, anyone who watched him should be able to immediately see that this guy has "IT". Same as Brady, same as Joe Burrow.

I would take Lance and Kinlaw in a trade I wouldn't trade a 1st 2nd or 3rd for them. I would offer a 4th and a Future pick depending on certain things.

Lance needs to learn under a great tutelage. We haven't had a decent under study in like forever. So he would be decent addition.
Kinlaw isn't bad either. Still young and learning

Dude, Shanahan is the best tutelage you can get in the NFL for a QB.

If that's the criteria, then you're referring to about 2/3 of the QBs in the league.
I dont disagree, but depemding on your QB situation that detrmines what you should do. The Seahawks are in a position to take a shot on him, as are the Bucs.

I know.... and this is why I cant take some of the stuff or posters on here seriously. They clearly havent watched Trey Lane and yet they say he needs some tutelage. That dud e was in a perfect situation for a young QB and in two years he never got above SUVKING. Purdy shows up and in 2 months looks like Tom Brady...... sure, it is all about coaching....lol

If the kid is solid and would not be a distraction, I would be all for kicking the tires. With all the 49ers invested in him to have him 3rd on the depth chart speaks volumes on his performance. Like them or not they are a good franchise and if they are this down on the kid it might not be worth it.

If he had been a 5th rounder, would you even be talking about him?

SF overdrafted him, which is common for QB prospects. Know what the word on him coming out was? Slow processing speed. That doesn't just go away.

Geno was a very good passer in college. Lance was not.
Lance

Weaknesses
  • Highly inexperienced with just 318 pass attempts under his belt.
  • Will be 20 years old at the time of the 2021 draft.
  • Gets a little lackadaisical with his feet in quick game.
  • Needs to trust his pocket.
  • Has a tendency to void pocket rather than sliding and surveilling.
  • Pressure pulls his attention from deliverable throws.
  • Needs to become more decisive and trust his eyes.
  • Leaves lower half behind, diminishing his drive velocity.
  • Occasionally leaves explosive plays on the field by not getting it out on time.
  • Leaves too many deep balls short, allowing defenders to challenge.
  • Can be overly cautious.
  • Needs to get his slide game up and minimize collisions as a runner.

Weaknesses

Played in FCS for the equivalent of Alabama - the Bisons were streets ahead of their opponents and so has never really been tested against quality opposition
In the controlled environment at his pro-day he had eight misses which most of which came on overthrows: corner and fade routes to the right side of the field. He looked a little rusty and unpolished
He only made 17 starts and attempted just 318 passes as a collegiate quarterback
Played in a one read offense
While him being an amazing athlete is not in doubt, his testing numbers were not as good as fellow 2018 recruit Justin Fields coming out of high school. He also decided against running the 40 at his pro-day, which seemed like a suspect choice

And they also had zero oline. And no one blocking. Look at there team in a hole. If they didn't have Injurys left and right they would be SB Champs alot more then things would seem.

Lance has talent. But Shanahan is focused on Purdy
