This guy is going to command a massive deal...probably more than his teammate Vernon got last off-season

This guy has one double digit sack season in the last 5 years

Nope

2014 12.5
2011 16.5

That is going back six years, but he is 28. From what Ive read hes great in the run game too. I dont know what he would cost and I can imagine it would be excessive but at the same time Id have to strongly consider it. We can not waste another QBS career with a medicore to poor defense. We need at least one legit play making DE along with another solid draft class. Hopefully that players presence can synergistically bring up the rest of the line, the defense and the team.

I think there's a chance this happens if the compensation is not stupid.

Not sure how I feel about it. I wanted us to make a run at Vernon last year...then I saw the price tag. No thanks. JPP would be a good addition. I can't imagine he ends up being worth the money he's going to command though.

If the team feels they can comfortably afford him and he is an upgrade then I don't see the problem.

It's good to get guys within the division since they are already close to the competition. Plus, if he can give Dak some tips on why that defense confused the crap out of him, that would be a good thing.

Fun fact...only 6 defensive ends in the NFL had double digit sacks last season. We aren't going to land a double digit sack guy this offseason. If we can get one guy that commands a double team, it would increase the pressure all around though.

I'm sure this thread will be moved soon but Roster Zone is pretty dead, I think we should keep a few free agent related threads alive to create more conversation. Fanzone is becoming Jaylon Smith/Tony Romo central.

OK...twice in 6 years isn't good enough either

I'm in that same boat with you.

He just may be that one defensive end that could truly make a difference for the Cowboys.

Then again, it could be one of those deals where we can't wait to get out of it because the guy disappoints and disappears.

I'm not blowing a lot of money on a dude who doesn't have 10 fingers. Would rather trade up in the draft

The days of the feared edge rusher are coming to an end also. Offenses are evolving. Look at New England. You could put Lawrence Taylor in his prime screaming off the edge and it wouldn't matter.

Pressure has to come from inside and out in today's game because teams are adapting to the spread talent that is coming out. Most offensive linemen coming out of school can't and weren't trained to sustain blocks for long.

Guy has get paid and coast written all over him.
Absolutely. Better make his earnings in football because he couldn't push a contract across a table selling insurance. Nor will he be able to type.

JPP when healthy is elite, but as soon as he gets a bit banged up his production falls off a cliff and is barely average. He has spent a lot of time banged up in his career and can't see that getting better as he gets older. The responsible thing to do is pass on a massive contract that will not likely pay off for whomever signs him.

War Daddies

2012 - 20 edge rushers got 10+ sacks
2013 - 24 edge rushers got 10+ sacks
2014 - 19 edge rushers got 10+ sacks
2015 - 16 edge rushers got 10+ sacks
2016 - 16 edge rushers got 10+ sacks

So around 50% of the league has one. Wish we had one. Last time was with ware - 15.5 sacks
