NY Post says the Giants are all over Hicks, but that could be pre-draft BS.

I agree as well. Mike Thomas has the look of someone who will be effective in the NFL for years.

What makes everyone so confident in Mike Thomas? Based on what I see and hear, Thomas is a quick slot guy. Nothing I see out of him makes me think he will somehow be more than that. They guy averaged like 11 or 12 yards a catch, so I don't see him as a deep threat either.

That's exactly the type of receiver we DON'T have....and exactly the type of receiver we need IMO.

Roy Williams will never be Terry Glenn. Miles Austin will never be Michael Irvin. That doesn't mean they can't be used effectively. There are different types of receiver, and they don't all equate to deep threats of possession types, but having enough versatility at the position is the key....and we dont' have it.

Here is the WR I hope we get. He is speedy and has great hands. He is a great punt returner as well.

Are you ready??........................................................:p:

I agree. Kelly was bad. His knees are shot.

I feel really, really sorry for this pea-sized DB covering Barden.

That just isn't fair. Not one bit.

I'd love to have this guy on the team if only for the coin toss :D

Couldn't agree more. Just looking at that guy face to face might make me piss myself.

He is my favorite receiver in this draft behind Brian. I'd love to have this guy at the right spot.

Is this guy another RW? Is he going to be there in the third? Should we use a second on a player either not on the LOS or LB?

No, we should not use a 2nd on Barden.

We don't need a deep threat. Teams were already dropping a man back to double TO and take away the deep threat. Our inability to employ a short-passing game and running game is what killed us. We couldn't force the defense up. The fact that he has a good short game is intriguing, especially with his height. I don't know how this fits in with Garrett's attacking philosophy, but if they are moving to a systematic approach to offense, I think it may work, especially if we keep Miles Austin, who would be an adequate threat downfield.

I'm starting to warm up to Derrick Williams, we might be able to still get him in the early 3rd as I heard his stock is slipping a little, his NFL comparison is Santana Moss, he would be a nice returner, Slot Receiver and Wildcat QB.

good point, it's been pointed out by NFLDS that Barden is best on controlled routes such as drags and slants, and has pretty quick feet for a guy so big

The only thing I learned from that video is that he's a goal line and redzone WR. Him being 6"6 is a huge advantage but will he get off the line against NFL corners?? I have my doubts about the guy turning into anything special, but him paired with Martellus and Roy would make a pretty deadly red-zone offense.

The key thing is how do the Cowboys believe he will develop.

He has really nice speed for a guy of that size and can move fluidly too.

The question they have to be asking is what can he do after he gets NFL coaching and NFL training with those physical abilities.

He just seems like another project to me. The only way we get him is in the 3rd and that simply isn't project territory.

I dont want a 4.6 40 receiver that dominated average small college CB's and has trouble getting separation from good College CB's. What is wrong with that picture?

Tex

there was a guy named Greg Jennings that dominated lesser competition and he turned out pretty danged well in GB.
Barden needs to be a Cowboy.
We'll still need a speedy guy like Thomas or Wallace but Barden could really be something.

Personally, I think we have enough tall, long striders. I want some quickness and speed, like Mike Thomas or Mike Wallace.

That would be my preference too, but not sold on Wallace, if not Thomas then I would prefer Johnny Knox, better route runner, body control & hands, plus is just as fast, or faster.

That said, I like Barden. He's game & size is comparable to Plax Burress, w/out the drama and character issues. Perhaps a better comparison is Marques Colston, except Barden is faster than either guy.

As for Iglesias, he's too close to what Cowboys' already have on the roster, in Crayton (both as a slot receive & as a punter). Iglesias is likely better, but not by that much. Not that I don't like Iglesias (like him better than Robiske actually), drafting him would be a luxury at this time (unless Crayton is moved). Iglesias does not provide the big play ability in the return game like a Thomas or Derrick Williams would.

You've got RW and Bennett on the team. Do we really need another 6'6" receiver?

I'd much rather have an OL, ILB, NT, S, or CB than another WR esp an unproven one. Pick up a guy with the quicks who can catch the ball in the later rounds. Chances of a 1st year receiver helping this team much aren't nearly as good as drafting someone on the LOS to be a backup now and hope they can start 2-4 years from now.

I'd love to know how the scouts have Barden rated. He appears to have excellent hands and agility for his size.
