If this is the move they make, I see little reason why they should keep Olumba around.

Same book stash. Olumba will end being a contributor on someone else's roster some day and we'll keep signing PS fodder. Not saying Olumda is Darren Woodson but it seems we never get to find out about any of these guys until we see them in a different uniform...

This should have zero effect on Lewis.

..I just saw some college video of him as receiver, before he converted to CB. Has good hands, good perception of the ball and descent speed.

Why wouldn't Jourdan Lewis be used instead?

Yes, Jourdan Lewis will get benched NOW that they've signed Deante Burton...

Jourdan Lewis has been the starting Nickel CB since Brown first got banged up in the Jets game.

Teams require depth. Lewis was the 4th CB, then Lewis was the 3rd CB but Brown was active all but 1 game after his original injury. They limited Brown's snaps because he was not 100% and because Lewis played reasonably well when he got his chance. With Brown on IR, Burton will likely become the 4th CB; although, Special Teams player CJ Goodwin is technically a CB.

Yah... all he has done is play well in the preseason and make plays lol

Why would anyone think he may deserve a shot lol?

The way this team operates and makes decisions is baffling
Played well??? Was there a Jersey pulling competition?

Chance to get a guy they like off of another team’s Practice squad. Had they moved Olumba up, they couldn’t have signed Burton off of Indy’s PS to be on the Dallas PS. This way they have both Burton and Olumba.

I suspect that McClay had flagged Burton as a guy they liked on another team’s PS and this was a chance to steal him from Indy. They probably view Olumba and Burton as about the same player, and since neither would play a lot, decided to take the chance to get a guy they liked.
Great point. By poaching Burton, the Cowboys get a 2 for 1. They probably valued Burton's potential more than what was available in the free agent pool, which is the only option they would have had if they just promoted Olumba instead.
