I can't believe anyone would be dumb enough to try to sell anyone on that.

And for the record, I don't think either Spencer or Hatcher are back next year.

I agree with you on Spencer but I think there is a good chance that Hatcher will be back.

That is what is a little concerning.

By the time April rolls around, our DL could look like this if everything stays the same:

Ware, Hatcher (if signed), Crawford, Spencer (if signed) starting; Hayden, Nevis, Dawkins, Brown, Wilber, Rayford, Wynn, Jones and Bass as reserves.

Then Kiffin could say the meeting room is full again and we ignore the need for upgrading.

Well I can tell you are full of it...cause you did not list Selvie in there ;-p

Who cares? It does show they are not standing pat with the bottom five of the roster, especially with the defensive line.

The only drawback is if after the season they get comfortable with the extra bodies and do not look to the draft for more help there.

Agreed, I think that it's a really good low cost, high volume carpet bombing approach. Game testing guys when you don't have much to lose is far better than relying on the Igor Olshansky's of the world, because they played for you on a previous team etc.

It seems like we will essentially comb through the entire waver wire before the season ends, and it's more likely than not that we will come up with another cheap Selvie or two at this pace. Given all of our holes, needs and cap restraints in 2014, this might be an efficient way to bolster the line. I still think that we draft for both lines next year regardless of what we come up with scraping the barrel in 2013.

It has to at least be a cowboys record.

Go back to the early Jimmy Johnson days, before FA and when the Plan B FA was in place. He probably doubled what we have compared to now. And that was from churning a poor roster, not so much from injuries. But no salary cap either. But churning didn't effect it, unless any signing bonuses count.

Man, if there is such a thing as second chance ferry for linemen, it has to be Marinelli.

But definitely not a second chance with the team. If you don't prove you are worth keeping around instantly, see ya, a la Marvin Austin.

True this is not churning the bottom these guys are signing on a Monday and playing the following sunday. As thin as we are the Cowboys do not have a choice. I commend the work by Rod Marinelli and Leon Lett getting this guys ready to play so quickly.

Yep this is the reason.

We have three dt's and two could be out of the game like Sunday at any moment because of lingering issues.

It's comical at this point. When I saw Marvin Austin just standing there watching the d lineman Sunday go through their warmup drills I knew something was up and it's basically unbelievable that he dressed and couldnt play.

Where are all the people complaining about not drafting their board by trading down for Frederick? They had a 3rd round grade on Dawkins and passed on him twice for lower rated players. I guess they just thought they were set at DL but he was higher rated than Randle and Holloman. I really like Holloman but you never take a guy you have a 5th round grade on over a guy you have a 3rd round grade on. Doing so is clear evidence they don't keep with their board. You have to take Dawkins over Holloman and then if you really like Holloman that much you start working the phones to get another pick as long as he is available.

I wish they would do this with other positions as well (offensive line, etc.). Maybe they just consider Marinelli's scheme simple enough to learn on the fly?

That's definitely a big part of it. All the DE's have to do is be a rushman.

Yeah, that would be a "no 3rd chance." Overall, I think that it's good, but I wonder if there is a lack of continuity factor involved? Much less of an issue as with the OL, but I wonder if there is an effect nonetheless.

I think fairy is what you were going for but it was humorous imagining him getting all these players on a ferry and going back and forth from team to team.

yeah, saw that, timed out on the edit, don't use the word much :D

I'm certainly not against it, he's plenty phenomenal football right now, but with the cap situation, I have doubts that they can afford him.

Most of them are young that we are bringing in. Team is making up for the lack of draft picks invested in the line and our one pick last year in Crawford missing the whole year. But I can see where you are coming from, DL seems to be strictly business, constantly new, hungry faces that want to earn a long term paycheck.

What about Selvie?

I was wondering though how many of those guys do we actually keep for next season because as of right now I don't want to get rid of any of them. One thing is needed though is a pass rushing defensive end.

I actually would have preferred the Minter guy than Dawkins as he seems as explosive but with a better motor, however Dawkins does have better all-around tools it seems.
Love how Maranelli and the gang do not hesitate to move guys out quickly. It sends a message to the group and I think it contributes to there work ethic and high energy on gamedays.

That is a good point about the board, but we did try to get a 7th round pick to draft DC Jefferson, or maybe small chance for Magee, but we did not even try to sign Jefferson to our PS after he was released recently. Almost like we gave a coach the run of the draft in later rounds and ignored scouts opinions.

Dawkins is a good pick up. I thought we'd get him in the 5th or 6th round and now he ended up with us anyway. I like the pickup and being on a PS means he's at least in some sort of football shape.
