Amazingly we've managed to survive so far with a bunch of waiver pick ups. Some of them are actually worth bringing back next season like Hayden and Selvie. What is an indictment on the front office is to go into a season with no depth watsoever at a position. And proclaim it an area of strenght on top of that.

in their defense we had ridiculously bad luck with injuries,no team can survive that.

This guy is tailor made to play under tackle in this defense. Hope he has improved his base strength a bit.

Who cares? It does show they are not standing pat with the bottom five of the roster, especially with the defensive line.

The only drawback is if after the season they get comfortable with the extra bodies and do not look to the draft for more help there.

You know what, they already have found at least 3 Tampa 2, DLinemen, Nevis, Brown, and Hatcher, maybe Selvie is one as well

I don't think any of the players we have signed are sure fire top shelf talents you would consider optimal.

Awesome depth though. Selvie is pushing quality starter territory. Nevis though is not someone you would feel solidifies an interior position IMO.

Rotation is something we really have not been all that involved with since we went to the 3-4, but I hope we continue stressing the DL and realize good defenses have that rotation. Part of why the Giants are going down this year is they lost that edge on the DL, in other words the pass rush.

Wrong. No team except maybe Seattle can withstand losing four of there top five lineman and expect decent results. See the vaunted Patriots who are having trouble replacing a couple lineman how tough it is. The salary cap era just won't allow for teams to stockpile depth like they used to, given this the Cowboys are doing as good a job as you can expect under these circumstances.

There is a difference here and what Johnson was doing in 1989. This is trying to find a better combination for a depleted unit, that was simply blowing up the entire team.

Someone had a great line back then about that 1989 roster, said it consisted of Troy and a bunch of guys named Roderick.

bringing these guys in is paying small dividends, but it does not preclude the team from using a 1st or 2nd round pick on DL if that is the BPA at the time in the 2014 draft

Pretty cool to see them land a guy they had a 3rd round grade on for peanuts.

My only question is, what took so damn long?

Too early for Nevis and Brown. Selvie looks to be at least a good reserve, but you could always improve. None of the players off the street are exactly young to go with an older incumbent group.

Selvie definitely looks like he can be a solid starter. He is on pace to have double digit sacks this season. Pretty good for a guy starting for the first time. And he is doing it with bunch of no names playing next to him.

Marinelli has taught me one thing for sure. Had no idea position coaches had so much power.

All except Hatcher might be good rotation guys, but Dallas needs to add a stud to that lineup to pair with Hatcher.

When they earn the reputation he has and get the results, they deserve the clout. But he is a rarity for a position coach. There are only a handful of assistant coaches in this league who have his kind of say in the process.
