I'm certainly not against it, he's plenty phenomenal football right now, but with the cap situation, I have doubts that they can afford him.

I think Dallas can manage the cap to keep him. We will see.

This is the guy that Dallas had a 3rd round grade on in the draft, right?

It is nice to pick up someone we had a 3rd round grade on for nothing, if we keep this up we might have our DL for next year when Bass and Crawford come back, hope is a wonderful thing.

With Crawford and Bass healthy (I hope) next year we may have some depth at DE (and Bass I believe was being used in the nickel at DT.) They may get Spencer on a cheaper contract as well. Wilber came out of the draft as a pass rushing specialist, he may be coming on right now at DE. Selvie is solid. Brown may even be a nice fit. Rayford has not shown much, nor Vega.

DT looks less secure and the draft should try to get one early.

I think Bass will come into camp next year at 300 pounds and be a full time DT.

That is what is a little concerning.

By the time April rolls around, our DL could look like this if everything stays the same:

Ware, Hatcher (if signed), Crawford, Spencer (if signed) starting; Hayden, Nevis, Dawkins, Brown, Wilber, Rayford, Wynn, Jones and Bass as reserves.

Then Kiffin could say the meeting room is full again and we ignore the need for upgrading.

wheres Selvie?

Wilber came out of the draft as a pass rushing specialist, he may be coming on right now at DE.

With Ware coming back, and with Brown's performance last week, Wilber won't get much chance to be "coming on" at DE. With his size, his best chance to continue his NFL career is to latch onto some 3-4 roster next year as an OLB.

Maybe trade bait to the Saints during the offseason?

Analysis

Positives: Thick, compact frame with flexible lower half. Gets a good jump and exhibits an explosive first step off the snap. Does a good job of maintaining low leverage on contact. Exhibits good bend in his lower half when asked to hold position at the point of attack. Consistently gets his hands into his opponent's frame. Flashes quick hands and a nice swim move to bypass his blocker to either side. Impressive agility and break down ability for his size. Above-average closing burst in space. Displays solid backfield vision and awareness as a run defender. Hip flexibility to effectively dip and turn the corner on stunts to the outside.

Negatives: May be considered somewhat undersized for the position. Lacks ideal arm length, and is locked up often as a result. Doesn't rip or swim as much as he should when considering his plus hand quickness and lack of length. Struggles to disengage when attempting to close running lanes from his anchor. Hand power is marginal at best, as he appears to "bounce" off his opponent at times when initiating contact off the snap. Resorts more to the bull rush than he should, as he lacks the natural power to consistently drive opponents off the block.

Compares to: Greg Scruggs, DT, Seattle Seahawks - Like Scruggs, Dawkins possesses explosiveness and athleticism that could make him a feared interior rusher at the next level. However, to be a more consistent threat to quarterbacks, he'll need to become more active with his hands, and continue to develop a repertoire of counter-moves that utilize his "plus" athleticism and quickness.

Dawkins is very athletic with a quick first step. Marinelli should have a picnic developing this guy. If he can further augment his spin and swim moves, he should improve significantly. Right now, he tends to be mostly favoring the bull rush which isn't in his best interest in the pros for his size. Marinelli's a guy who could really turn this guy around and make the most of his natural athleticism. Nice pickup.

He was pretty lousy during the preseason with the Vikings, though, wasn't he? I wouldn't expect too much.
