Nah, he knows his stuff. He just has strong opinions based on decades of Cowboys fandom and a lot times having a different opinion doesn't mean someone is wrong. The strategy he's outlined is absolutely a way this defense could have made a dramatic leap forward.
I wholeheartedly disagree.

I mean this guy at least had 3.5 sacks and 13 QB hits last year. Armstrong has 0.

That's not my problem though. Whether he can upgrade the depth or not is nearly meaningless to me when you know funds are limited and this team has a dire need to do something significant inside.

It’s not Smith was actually terrible. He had one good game vs Seattle and that was it. He was too slow, and showed lack of effort on tape.

Not saying Smith was great...but he was 2nd on the team with 20 QB pressures, 1st with 9 QB knockdowns, and 3rd with 6 QB hurries. Again, not great #’s, but he was indeed a top pass rusher on our bad D. AT BEST Basham is a lateral move which means we are still very bad at the most important part of playing defense.

Here's the reaction of the rest of the NFL after the Cowboys shopping spree this week:

I don’t disagree , it’s been that way for years. I’m convinced this team doesn’t know what a NT is.

Well LVE was timed at a 4.64 forty time and Basham was timed at 4.70
Yeah that’s a significant difference in the NFL. And LVE isn’t a Quinn guy and will possibly be gone after this year. LVE wasn’t hand picked by Quinn.

I think Basham is fine as a 3rd DE. Which is what he will be if Gregory doesn’t get in trouble.

If Gregory gets in trouble. The cowboys are in trouble.

if he stays healthy. Having Lawrence, Gregory, Basham, and Anae or maybe bother mid round draft pick. Should be a solid edge rush actually.

it’s the DT’s that are still a concern.

we really need a top end free agent or they need to get an immediate high quality starter in the draft. Which is a big ask.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Do you remember the press conferences on day 2 and 3 that year? On Friday night they mentioned they almost traded back into the 3rd round for another defender. Then the next day admitted it was Armstrong and had trouble sleeping at the thought of losing him. No way he'd be there for their 4th round pick. But they lucked out.

I think about that every time I watch that stiff play.
I do not remember that.

But now since you have told me this story, I will have trouble sleeping tonight.

I’m convinced this team is drooling over Ossai. I would expect them to move up on round two if he’s there.

Lawrence
Gregory
Ossai
Basham
Anae

is at least solid. The inside is a mess.
