I'm guessing he plays right away as the scat back. We need someone who can take short routes and turn them into bigger gains since our QB needs some help there. It will also make the intermediate routes more effective as it takes a resource away esp in the middle. If he can return punts which he will get a look at then great. He'll have to work in motion likely from a one back set or set up in the slot where he motion from as well.

If you want to criticize playcalling then we are not running enough stacked receiver sets nor running rub plays. This gives everyone problems so I fail to understand why we aren't doing it. It looks as if it requires some coordination by the 2-3 receivers but they should be able to get that down. TBF Weeden might not have been good at that and Cassel hasn't been with the team that long but I do think long enough.

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
STRENGTHS:
Jitterbug athlete with loose hips, rubber ankles and natural fluidity. Quick-footed with the plant-and-go burst to dart through the line of scrimmage and get north-south. Sudden shiftiness to pull a rabbit out of his hat, showing nifty moves that can be tough to contain, especially in space. Eats up grass quickly with very good speed for the position, mixing his gears well.

Small hands, but usually reliable catching the ball out of the backfield. Reliable on short-yardage plays - 10.4 average (16/167/1) in his career on third down and less than two yards. Experienced kick returner with a career 24.1 average (70/1,684/0) - also played on other special teams coverages. Only 242 career offensive touches with no major injuries, limiting the wear and tear on his body. Excellent yards per carry average (6.6) over his career. Well-liked by everyone in College Station.

WEAKNESSES: Undersized with a frame that appears close to maxed out - narrow torso with lean muscle. Lacks the build to run with functional power and won't consistently break tackles after initial contact. Won't generate a push between the tackles and needs space to be effective. Vision is lukewarm and doesn't always trust what he sees or show faith in his blockers to create space.

Was never the bell-cow option in college with only one 100-yard rushing performance in 36 career games and one start - has only five games on his resume with double-digit carries. Didn't return an punts at Texas A&M. Small hands and wasn't asked to run many routes or be a large part of the passing game - unreliable in pass protection with limited upside in this area.

--Dane Brugler

PLAYER OVERVIEW
An all-purpose weapon, Williams was underutilized in college as part of a committee backfield the past three seasons at Texas A&M, leaving College Station averaging 6.6 yards per carry over his career.

He boasts controlled twitch to make explosive jump cuts, effortlessly shifting his balance to make defenders miss, even in tight spaces. But his lack of size, power and offensive identity are concerns and project him as more of a luxury weapon for an offense, who can impact the game as a return man and change of pace option out of the backfield/slot - mid-to-late round option due to questions about his NFL role.

Sounds like 1/2 the guys at the gym. No matter i'll see him at 24hr or LA fitness pretty soon.

Has the monkey weighed in on this yet?

“The monkey thing is pretty humorous. I am a monkey fan. I could stand in a zoo and look at them all day long and die laughing. My dad was in the wild animal business, and had over 5,000 wild animals. And he always, no matter what, would hand somebody a card and said ‘be sure and come out and visit my monkeys.’
One of the most interesting things that happened was one time this monkey jumped up on the roof of a car … you drove through about nine miles and you go through monkeys and a lot of other things. No predators loose, but the monkey — the people had their windows down on both sides, the monkey hit the driver’s side, went through the car and on his way by a little girl pulled a bunch of hair out. Of course that was quite an issue and the talk of the Animal Paradise for months ahead.”

I'm very familiar with him from his days in high school. He was very underutilized by Sumlin at A&M. He has some serious juke ability and despite his size he runs hard. This is a good pickup.

I remember when the big debate was who was better out of high school: Jonathan Gray or Trey Williams? Both had 'meh' careers in college but Trey Williams has more ability, A&M just doesn't run the ball much.

Might activate all of them if he ends up being the FT kickoff player. Apparently they trust Smith more than Michael to spell McFadden on passing downs.

This.

I'm not sure that Michael is ever going to be trusted by the coaches. It seems as if the scouts/front-office like Michael more than the coaches do.

To be able to start drives beyond the 20 yard line? That is crazy

That is like the holy grail

You only hear about it but no one has actually seen it done

I know there is the rare KR for a TD like Harris against the Cowboys; however, I wonder if it's really worth ever bringing the ball out of the end-zone anymore. It seems that it's just a good chance not to get to the 20 yard line vs the rare occasions when they get past the 20.

Sit Clutts, Have smith play some FB, as he can be a threat to run or catch also.
Use Williams as the Dunbar role player. As well as return guy option behind Whitehead.

It would be great if Smith could play FB for the 7 snaps per game that Clutts plays. Having running/receiving threat from that position would be nice.
