Cowboys sign Will McClay to extension

INDIANAPOLIS -- As a number of teams flirted with the idea of making Will McClay their general manager, including the Houston Texans this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys made sure to show their appreciation to their vice president of player personnel.

According to sources, the Cowboys signed McClay to a two-year extension after he declined the opportunity to interview with Houston.

Great news. Feel more confident for the next 2 drafts as to get this team together and some much needed depth.
But will the coaching staff be able to do their jobs?
With the new assistants there is some hope there. Garrett just needs to make better in game decisions and better game time manager and adjustments.

I just wish I knew if he was as anti free agency and Trades as Stephen Jones has been.

If he is one of the guys pushing that agenda then I wish we would've let him go.

I would think it's quite easy to work with them.

If you're in a situation where the people who make the decisions are quite knowledgeable then it's tougher to sway them when you disagree. The Joneses don't go out and review players. They leave it up to McClay and his staff to do that. Now, they may do something stupid if they really like a guy in the first round (like Jerry wanted to do with Manziel) but most of the time they are going to listen to their experts.

I look up and down the roster and see a sheer lack of talent. My wish the past few years has been the desire to bring someone in who can help identify defensive talent. We do great on offense, not so much on our defensive picks. Maybe these young defensive backs will pan out so time will tell there, but we've spent some resources on defense and just can't seem to get a solid unit out there without the offense protecting them with ball control.
