A year or two ago, his cap situation was totally different. There was no benefit whatsoever to cutting him (or benching him). Luckily, we have a defensive coach who's smart enough to mask poor safety play. Otherwise, people would be screaming for new safeties.

Nonsense. 2 years ago a significant number of people on this board thought he could still play, and would viciously attack anyone who said otherwise. It had nothing to do with the salary cap, it was "need a scheme to get him at the LOS". "coverage is not important for SS", blah blah blah. Nobody was talking salary cap at that point, everyone just thought he needed the right "scheme" to be Rookie Roy Williams again.

The 'smart defensive coach' masked his poor play by taking him off the field significant parts of the game. That should speak volumes.

The guy hasn't made a significant play (other than costly horse collar penalties) in years, no matter what the scheme. He is cooked, Rookie Roy Williams no longer exists as a player. Even the diehards are starting to get it.
