Ya, I'm kinda gettin tired from holding this full nelson..

such an easy hold to get out of imo.

I love how that little tid bit is even considered "news" when Roy speculated it how long ago?

Nonsense. 2 years ago a significant number of people on this board thought he could still play, and would viciously attack anyone who said otherwise. It had nothing to do with the salary cap, it was "need a scheme to get him at the LOS". "coverage is not important for SS", blah blah blah. Nobody was talking salary cap at that point, everyone just thought he needed the right "scheme" to be Rookie Roy Williams again.

The 'smart defensive coach' masked his poor play by taking him off the field significant parts of the game. That should speak volumes.

The guy hasn't made a significant play (other than costly horse collar penalties) in years, no matter what the scheme. He is cooked, Rookie Roy Williams no longer exists as a player. Even the diehards are starting to get it.

This thread is proof.

What should be a venom-spitting knockdown drag out replete with AdamJT statistics is now nothing but an off-topic discussion involving SummerIroot4BobSacamano's philosophy about nose tackles.

It is quite a sad end to the Roy Williams era.

What's there to say? He didn't play in 2008. I guess we could rehash 2007. That sounds like fun. I sure do miss those threads.

While I wouldn't mind it, probably another Watkins article based wholly on speculation and not fact.

Don't be obtuse.

The only time this would be "fact" is when his name crosses the waiver wire.

You are right.

We have moved on to bigger and better things.

Like how Jason Garrett was singularly responsible for our collapse in Philadelphia.

He didn't play in 2008 and made exactly the same number of big plays as he did in 2007 and 2006.

Again, Rookie Roy Williams is gone. There is no scheme, there is no coach, there is no salary re-structure that is going to bring back a ghost of that player. The sooner we get over it and move on the better.

And to say the debate was around his salary in 2006 and not his play on the field is just blatantly wrong. No one cared about his salary, we cared that Jeremy Shockey was making him his b**** every time we played them.

Yep, he's reached the end of a long line here and it's been coming for two years. Put that broke **** dog out of it's misery.

I've been really critical of Roy but I do want him back here. He's a good SS. He's not, and likely will never be, a guy who ever has his play match his talent but he's still a better SS than more than half the starters in the league.

Of course, the next time he misses a freaking OTA because he wants to go on a cruise, I'm calling for his head.

Some people say that a quintessential "happy ending" can cheapen a story.

You've really nailed it.

AdamJT won't even defend Roy now. Damn those myth threads were awesome. I wish I had the idea to chose a bunch of implausible statements like "Roy was 650 lbs in the off season" and then blowed them up.

I couldn't disagree with this more. He is a JAG.

Worse, he is a JAG who will readily point fingers at anyone around him for his own shortcomings. Lately its how much different playing safety in a 4-3 is to playing in a 3-4. Clearly that is what has caused him to not have a single sack, INT, TFL, FF or any other big play in 2 years (accounting for injury). He is the Akin Ayodele of safeties - you know he is on the field, you just don't know what the heck he is doing out there.

Draft a 2nd or 3rd rounder this year and you won't miss a beat. At least you will have a guy who is hungry for success again.

I'll certainly defend him (or any other player) against any false and exaggerated statements. But he barely played in 2008, and I've already said everything I needed to say about the seasons before that. Of course, some people still make idiotic statements about him that have been proved incorrect, but I don't see the point of saying the same things over and over and over again. At some point, you just have to realize that some people will never get it and will continue to spout the same myths as if they were true.

Man, the rookie Roy Williams looked like a HOF lock with annual probowl trips.

As soon as he got that second contract, his play went to hell. He totally lost all of his aggression and instead of blowing people up, he was just content to arm tackle. What a total waste of talent, he could have been one of the greatest of all time and he just pissed it all away once he got paid.

He seemed to deflate after such a good start, and I think his whole problem is mental. He just isn't hungry anymore. Seemed to fall off a cliff when the Roy Williams Horse Collar rule was made policy.
