What I want to know is...why is such a "popular" sport always having problems with their stadiums always crashing down and injuring 100's of fans!

Can't those people construct soccer stadiums that are safe? It seems like at least two or three times a year there is always news of those rickety stadiums crashing down on people! And, it usually happens after an 8 hour match (it seem like that) with the score 1 to 1 and one of the teams FINALLY score 1 more point! The fans go nuts! I guess it's out of frustration sitting in the sun 9 hours watching some yo-yo's trying to score AT LEAST 1 POINT, and when they finally do, all hell breaks loose!

Something is wrong with that picture!

Probably has something to do with the fact that every damn european town with a population 5,000 people has a stadium that holds 50,000 people, and many of those towns can't afford an expensive stadium. Many of them are cheaply built, glorified bleachers. Just a guess, though.

Plus, soccer fans are mental, and probably too drunk to notice that the bleachers are crumbling beneath them.

Yeah, I have another question...

What is 3/4 divided by 1/2 = ?

I was making homemade cookies last night that called for two eggs and I only had 1 egg left so I had to 1/2 the ingrediants!

I honestly think much of the world hates/resents us because we haven't embraced their "beautiful game." They practically had a coronary when we hosted the World Cup, as if some sort of blasphemy was being committed. We don't (relentlessly) push baseball on other countries or wonder why they don't "get it." The same cannot be said of the soccer fanatics.

Suuuure...Might also be the fact that MLB can call their championship the 'World' Series when only one country is actually participating...Same goes for all the other 'World' Championships in US professional sports...At least the NFL has the Superbowl and doesn't presume to be the champions of the world.

Then again, maybe they might resent Americans for refusing to join the rest of the world in calling the sport the actual name

And by the way, as much as I enjoy American Football, only the NBA has ever produced talents, IMHO, that compare to some of the artists out there playing football like Ronaldinho, Messi or Cristiano...It's a special combination of talent, art and athleticism that rivals the play of artists like MJ and Kobe...You never quite see that kind of innate 'special' talent like that on the field in the NFL...Maybe Barry Sanders at times or Deion but nothing quite like Ronaldinho, IMHO

I've been saying for years that the NBA has to institute bookings like in football with yellow cards or Technicals for flopping...Basically, T up a player for flopping and get a 2nd one and you're out of the game and face a suspension.

It's gotten so ludicrous in the NBA that it's hard to watch anymore and some of the worst offenders aren't just the international guys

Oh great, now Canada isn't a country. They must be our 51st state.

But the World Cup was not PUSHED onto the US, the Federation in charge of Soccer in the US applied to hold it.

Every country that wants to hold the World Cup has to apply for it, and go through a bid and selection process (much like the Olympic Games, and even the Superbowl).

The feeling of resentment was from many countries who wanted to host the World Cup but lost out to the US, who in general terms have little interest.

However, most of the ill feeling was directed towards FIFA (the Worlds governing body), rather than the US.

First point is that a game only lasts TWO hours (might seem like EIGHT to you;) , just like baseball seems to take all day to me).

As for safe stadiums.I can't speak for the rest of the World, but in the UK it comes down to the age of the stadium.

In England alone their are 92 professional football league teams, and the stadiums that most of them are in are getting on for 100 years old. A lot of these are in need of major renovation, which the clubs can ill afford.

It's not like the US, where the cost of the Stadium is part funded by local government (I believe that a tax levy was introduced in Arlington to help fund the new Cowboys stadium). The stadia in England are as a general rule owned by the teams, except in the cases where the teams have had to sell them off to pay off debts.

That said, I think it has been many years since anyone died in a stadium accident in the UK.

One team from Canada, wow a stunning number of 'other' countries to participate...Doubtful you'll find more pickup games of baseball in Canada than you would football...Still, 2 countries apparently constitutes the world...Leaving over 200 countries out of such a 'world' competition probably doesn't change the validity of such a 'World' Series claim, eh?

95% of the world refer to the game as football but 'we' refuse to by calling it soccer...If there's 'resentment', it's things like that that fuel it...As for not embracing it, it would be arrogant to think the likes of the football giants in the world or fans actually care...I can only imagine people in Spain enjoying the success of the Euro cup thinking, 'If only America loved this game too'

I think there's more resentment from fans of football within this country that can't see enough football broadcast here although that situation is improving as the popularity and hence, $$$$, ends up fueling that improvement

Soccers' passion overboards football by a milestone. depends on wut you like. i understand people liking football over soccer, b/c football can get you pumped. but I dont understand people taking baseball over soccer. thats just........UNEXPLICABLE. LOL

for me....

1. Soccer
2. Football...

and 3. used to be basketball..back in the day when MJ was with the Bulls.

btw..FcBarca: wheres ronaldinho going? barcelona gave deco away to chelsea. gave dos santos to tottenham i'm not liking next season very much. :D

Once again, that is EXACTLY what bbgun said. You are validating his post which you set out to refute.

I should care whether they care if I care about soccer? The problem with that is I don't care if they care.
