Cowboys supposedly talking with Hatcher

I am seriously starting to wonder, if this retread strategy has any legs, the FO is eyeing either JFB or Mike Evans round one.

smells like something jerry would do. I can see it now. Mega contract and hatcher will either suck or be injured.

I think a lot of what we're going to do in FA comes down to what happens with Ware. If Ware takes a cut.. I can see them offering some $$ to Hatcher.

Just wait until that week 3 pinched nerve that Hatch and D Ware seem to get comes back again. Jerry just let the old guys go and get some youth on the D - Line please.

No way either can be seriously considered. Even a blind man can see neither player does anything to help this defense.

I know the D-Line is looking at what appears to a 100% overhaul in the making if they don't try to resign Hatch, but...

That line was miserable WITH him last year. Yeah- he was the bright spot, but given the totality of his career- combining his age, which considering his own quotes means nothing to him, but is still a very real concern...
No way I would resign him to a long, lucrative contract.

Like many others here have said- YOUTH.
Youth, youth and more youth. Let's also add some hunger and some speed, if you please.
Players hungry to prove themselves (youth) to make more money and more speed (youth) to get to the QB and chase down those RB's.

That's the secret to success fellas. Get the guys that want, nay- need to succeed.
Those are the guy that will practice harder, study film longer, hunger more vigorously so that they can make their mark.
THEN we can hash out whether to pay those dudes, or restock with more guys who are younger, and have that fresh desire to prove themselves to make that money and their mark like their predecessors.

Not old mercenaries who are on their waning legs and already knowing they are but a few more years to their retirement with a sense of entitlement.

Vikings not doing other teams any favors with huge contract to a mediocre DE. With 40 million in cap room it appears intentional and strategical to place some teams out of the market.

Dumb strategy... Instead of making themselves better, they are reacting

I thought the secret to success was the secret sauce?

Hatcher's monetary offerings from other teams may be somewhat restricted by his age but it may take more than this team might be willing to part with to keep Hatcher around. At least, the team is doing due diligence in attempting to negotiate a deal. We'd best hope the front office isn't inclined to overstep their financial boundaries, however, even though they'd like to retain him.

I can't see any way that his next contract could fit into something that I would think is reasonable for the future success of this team, thus, I expect him to be signed by wednesday

Next on @1053thefan .. Valley Ranch source: #Cowboys have initiated preliminary talks with FA D-linemen Hatcher & Spencer. Let's slice it up
1:31 PM - 9 Mar 2014

Can't help but take this news as more of the same, stubborn, "we'll show 'em" mindset.

The definition of insanity. Do the same thing over and over again, but expect different results.

I hope so. The laughs from the posters on this board would be pure gold. JFB would be my dream come true in this draft.

As long as people are okay with more growing pains on the line.

I think that's to be expected at this point.

At least growing pains have the potential to bring gains as well.

Last year, all we got was the pain.

(Outside of finding George Selvie anyway)

Like Hatch, but I think the smart move is for Dallas to move on. Get some talented young guys on the Dline.

This is Hatcher's only shot to get any real money- if I were him I would go to the highest bidder no matter who it is. Not like this team is about to contend for the SB.

Imagine Hatcher and Melton. Dallas gets a guy for the present in Hatcher, and a guy for the present and the future in Melton. I could see some more restructures. If Jerry see's the possibility he wouldnt blink twice in restructuring Carr and Witten. And i bet Selvie, Hatcher, Melton, Ware would make the secondary alot better.

I am hoping by this time tomorrow Tampa throws more money at Hatcher than we can afford. We need to get younger on the DL, not stay virtually the same.
