Imagine Hatcher and Melton. Dallas gets a guy for the present in Hatcher, and a guy for the present and the future in Melton. I could see some more restructures. If Jerry see's the possibility he wouldnt blink twice in restructuring Carr and Witten. And i bet Selvie, Hatcher, Melton, Ware would make the secondary alot better.

If you want Melton, you should be hoping Hatcher signs elsewhere. They will not get two three techniques and pay them.

why? I want 2 guys who can get after the QB from inside. Judging from Marinelli wanting both, i think he likes it too. Its not like Hatcher is small, or Melton is small and its not like they dont play the run. I dont even know what ur trying to say with that.

Especially when we are oh so close - Jerra can just taste it. We are on the cusp. Hatch back might be that one lil piece we need to put us over the top . . . . . . . . . .

I am saying we won't get both players. We might be fortunate to get one of them, probably the one we know more than the one we do not.

You might want "two guys who can get after the QB from inside", but that is not how the defensive scheme is structured. There is also this slight issue with money.

If Jerry wants both he will get them both. trust that. Dallas could free up a total of 15-17 mil by getting a new deal for Ware, and restructuring Carr and Witten. If he can be talked into by Marinelli he wouldnt blink twice.

and thats exactly how this defense is structured. Get after the CB quick.

I am so worried we are going to give hatcher a stupid deal, both in terms of $$$ and contract length. And it wont surprise anyone.............

If he can give the team the production he gave them last yr, why would it be dumb? Hes 31 not 40. Hatcher is in his prime right now.

I have no problem with Dallas talking to all their free agents and most of the league free agents. IMO you never close the door. You have a cost you set internally that you don't go past. But no reason to close a door even before FA starts. I hope Dallas has reached out to most of the agents already. Even for guys who will be too expensive or not a primary target.

Not he isnt in his prime. He may have had a good year but he s 3-4 years past his physical prime imo.
This team cannot give out stupid deals to aging players, its why we are in this mess now .

Ratliff is a theif
Austin was 26 when he got his contract
Romo is a franchise QB
Ware has the most sacks in the nfl since 2005 was 27 when they gave him his contract

What other againg players have do they have?

Thief or not it was a STUPID deal to give to ratliff with two years left on his deal and OBVIOUS signs of his play deteriorating
We gave Austin his deal on the back of one great season...........

I am in no way saying i dont like hatcher but $3.5-4m per season would be my MAX on a three year deal.

There is really no way to predict what hatch will be over the next 2-3 years
Is he a one year wonder who played great in a contract year and is aging or will he be a consistent performer in the new scheme?

For a team as cash strapped as we are, we cannot afford a big mistake like this so I would stay away unless we are a reasonable 2 year deal which seems VERY unlikely

I would gve the same money to a younger guy like Joseph to shore up the 1 tech DT (cheaper) and draft Donald

Maybe, but Jerry has loyalty issues to players. He still wanted Ratliff on the team after Ratliff wanted to fight him. Jerry is a high character guy to his players.

The following season Miles has 1100 yrds and 7 tds. Then for whatever reason the hamstring injuries took over his career. Thats Jerrys fault? in 2012 Miles was having a good yr and then all of the sudden the planets aligned in Dez's head and he become the monster he is today. Miles probably got more money that he shouldve got, but nobody was crying about that deal when he got it.

Well do you have 3.5-4mil max to give jerry since thats all youre willing to give him? Add 2 mil more and thats what hatcher will be making on a avg deal. and is a good deal for a player that is as disruptive as hatcher is as the 3tech in marinellis defense.

How the Cowboys handle this contract and the Ware situation will tell a lot on wether the FO has learned anything in the last year or not.

True. Hatcher said last year he would request a trade if playing the nose - this was when Rat was projected as the 3. We aren't going to outbid to play him in a position that he neither likes or is good at

Hatcher played very well in 2012 as well.

If they pay a bunch to keep Hatcher it's going to be an enormous mistake. I like the guy but come on. His absolute best year came in a contract year and he's already in his thirties. I'm not interested in any long term, huge money contracts, with Hatcher and it's clear that's exactly what he's going to go for.

That's exactly what I've been thinking all off-season. I want to have faith in them, but I just can't.
