Everything about this thug screams stay away. I think he will maybe straighten up for a little while, then fall back to his old habits. I just hope we do not have to depend on him.

Yeah, his "fire and intensity" REALLY helped pick up that vaunted Titans defense, which finished DEAD LAST in the NFL in Jones' last season (2006)... they were 27th in pass defense that year...

And last year, without his "fire and intensity", the poor Titans only ranked 5th in total defense...

Every team needs that kind of "fire and intensity"... ROTFLMAO...

Odd that we question the skills of a man in the prime of his career. (Yes, duh! Pac-Man has baggage!) But his skills are unquestionable. He's relatively young, won't cost much and is not chronically injured. That is why the Cowboys and half a dozen other teams are interested in him, grass hoppah.

And you place "fire" and "intensity" in quotes to malign Pac-Man's on-field contributions.

But ... when it comes to an over-the-hill, aged and injured player (Zach), that cast-off is Mr. Leadership, Mr. Courageious, Mr. Worth Ethic.
All things being equal, am I glad that Zach brings his leadership and fire to the Cowboys or glad that Pac-Man might bring his playing skills, sans injury and sans age?

Let me think about dat ...Pac-Man. :laugh1:

Let's see now, should I go for what you say or what Calvin Hill can do?

Tough one.

OK, I believe in Calvin Hill's ability over your nay-saying.

I guess I can put you in the "I won't root for the Cowboys" group?

He was top 5 in YPA and another metric in 2006. He also had 4 picks and returned 3 punts for TDs. Hill is a spare and Woolfork was a complete and utter flop. There safeites were also awful. They upgraded S with Griffin and Wolfork and Hill were both replaced last season.

There is no question he is an extremely gifted corner. Hes just a moron on who he chooses to associate himself with.

And why would so many teams, many of them good teams, be interested in such a petulant, risky player? Here’s K.C. Joyner’s line on Jones from Scientific Football ‘07:

Jones’ off-field issues have been well documented, so I’ll take a moment to document his on-field performance last year. His 5.4 overall [yards per attempt] YPA was one of the best in the league adn his 56.7% overall success percentage was even better than his YPA.

Some are speculating that Jones’ days in the NFL could be over because of his legal problems, or that at the very least his Tennessee days are over. If and/or when he is cleared to return to the field, some team will give him a chance. His metrics are simply too good to be ignored and some coach or administrator will try their hand a managing the Pacman Jones experience.

Indeed his YPA was 8th in the league and his success percentage was 2nd among starting CBs in ‘06, just a fraction behind Champ Bailey’s.

That people like Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells, who are allergic to troublemakers, are interested shows you how good Jones’ game is.

Caveat emptor.

Actually, I put them in quotes to ridicule the notion that he brings "fire" and "intensity" to the table, the kind of "fire" and "intensity" that inspires his teammates... that was the specific issue here, not his overall talent... I will freely acknowledge his overall talent, but it's not great enough to justify gambling on him... and I have seen no such fiery leadership coming from him at any point in his pro career...

The point was, if he's such a potentially fiery leader, how come the Titans defense sucked?? How come it improved RADICALLY last year, with him on suspension??

The "fire and intensity" issue is utter garbage, PacMan offers no leadership ability AT ALL... if the Cowboys' defense has to depend on him for such leadership, they're in deep doo-doo...

Which means he's a player, but it says nothing at all about his ability to be this "fiery leader" some are claiming he is...

Never said he wasn't talented, just that he's a head case, and for sure, no leader for any team, in any sense of the word...

You have no idea what he is like in the lockerroom. Everything that I have heard is that hes a great teammate its just his friends off the field that cause him issues.

As I posted somewhere else, Clayton or Green on the Huddle last week were saying that Titan vets knew he was trouble the first week he joined the team.

I don't know how he's a good teammate, unless you're looking for someone to hit The Men's Club with.

PACMAN HEADING TO BIG D?

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 20, 2008, 7:06 p.m.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he wants his off-season moves to make people say “wow.”
He may be close to a trade that would do just that.

Citing unnamed NFL sources, Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Cowboys are attempting to acquire suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Pacman Jones, and that trade talks between the teams are intensifying to the point that one person close to the talks predicts a deal could be completed in the next week.

As compensation for Pacman, Dallas would send the Titans a mid-round draft pick, Schefter reports.
Jones is certainly talented enough that if he could get on the field, stay on the field and stay out of trouble, he’d be worth a mid-round pick. But can Jones do those things? That’s the big question. Jones is suspended and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will determine his status for 2008 before training camps open. Although a player can be traded while he’s suspended, the Cowboys would presumably want to trade for Jones only if they think there’s a good chance he’ll be permitted to play in 2008.

If the Cowboys add Jones, they’ll have two of the three players who were the league’s poster boys for bad behavior at this time last year. During the 2007 season they signed former Bear Tank Johnson, and now they appear to be closing in on acquiring Pacman. Perhaps they should contact the Bengals and inquire about the availability of Chris Henry.

There were a lotta folks in that group as soon as we signed TO. Then over time that group shriveled down to nothing. No surprises here.

Cowboys, Titans reportedly engaged in Pacman talks

Suspended Titans cornerback Pacman Jones said earlier this month he'd love to play for the Cowboys. Apparently the teams have begun the process of trying to make a trade happen.

Would you want your favorite team to trade for Pacman Jones?
Yes
No

The Dallas Morning News, citing an unnamed source, reported Friday that Dallas and Tennessee have held preliminary talks about a trade. The source told the newspaper that the Titans have acknowledged a trade is the best way for Tennessee to turn the page on its troubled player.

Manubir Arora, Jones' agent, prefers that his client be traded before the two-day NFL draft begins April 26.

"If Tennessee chooses not to have him on their roster next year, it's in their best interest to trade him," Arora told The Morning News, "because if not, they would get no compensation."

Later Friday, Arora told ESPN's Ed Werder that it's his understanding the Cowboys, the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions are interested in Jones. Asked Jones' preference of a future team, Arora said, "Every kid grows up wanting to play for the Dallas Cowboys."

"We want to go to an established team with good infrastructure and leadership," Arora told Werder. "Both the Cowboys and Patriots have veteran coaches who have been through these kinds of things before, good player liaisons and mentoring, and if you have those things and a winning program, then I think all these problems go away.

"All of Adam's issues have been offseason issues, not team issues."

Jones, who has been arrested six times since the Titans selected him in the 2005 draft, has been suspended since April 2007 for violations of the NFL's conduct policy and has been told by the league that the suspension will continue indefinitely.

Arora, who told ESPN.com in February he fears Jones' banishment could include the 2008 season, told Werder he will petition to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for Jones' reinstatement and would cite recent examples of misconduct by other NFL players who have not been punished by the league for alleged transgressions before trial.

"We will cite cases lately where people have been arrested," Arora said. "We were suspended before we were even arrested with regard to the Las Vegas case, which resulted in a misdemeanor. Since then they've had people arrested for potential felonies, fights outside nightclubs, people beating people up. It seems a little one-sided and certainly not equitable."

Jones settled charges from a Las Vegas strip club fight and triple shooting at the end of the 2007 NBA All-Star Weekend with a plea deal in December to a gross misdemeanor. Also, a Tennessee judge in February dismissed public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges from August 2006.

The final outstanding case against Jones, from Georgia in February 2006, was resolved last month when Jones entered an Alford plea to a felony count of obstruction of a police officer. In an Alford plea, the defendant does not admit guilt and asserts innocence, but admits that sufficient evidence exists with which the prosecution could likely convince a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty.

"Sometimes I make some bad decisions, it is not always that trouble seems to find me,'' Jones said, according to The Tennessean. "I am learning how to adjust to it and I am bettering myself as a person. I'm moving on and learning what I need to do to take care of myself and my family.''

Dallas is several million dollars under the salary cap and needs help at cornerback. Jones, 24, is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2009 season. His base salary will be $1.29 million whenever he is reinstated.

"I just have to do what I have to do to get back on the field,'' Jones told The Tennessean earlier this month. "Hopefully it won't be long and hopefully it will be a couple of more months. I would love to play for the Cowboys, America's team.''

Ed Werder covers the NFL for ESPN.

Is it me, or do these news blurbs all seem pretty much the same? No new information. Just one news agency hopping on the bandwagan.

Maybe Calvin Watkins started this all for publicity . . . . :laugh2:
