And I think we will find out real quick that Joseph Randle can't take the pounding. That said, I think this guy is a zero in pass protection. .

Would rather have seen Randle go than Edwards, but with McFragile in there I guess they figured Randle was still necessary as a backstop. I'd drop Randle for Ball in a heartbeat, but that's only because I don't trust him to be the player he needs to be all season.

McFadden, Michael and Ball has a nice ring to it.

I didnt even expect Edwards to make the roster, he wouldve been gone by the time Hardy was activated.

I doubt Michael even makes the game day roster. Don't see the Boy's having 4 rb's active. Dunbar most likely will because he's receiving threat.

McFadden is a receiving threat and Randle has made a few plays as a receiver if Dunbar remains on the roster it would likely be to play special teams. Doubt the Cowboys would trade for a back who they didn't feel would make their game day roster we'll just have to see.

According to ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer, the Cowboys' trade for Christian Michael is "more about insurance and depth."

For good reason, the Cowboys don't have much faith in underwear/cologne bandit Joseph Randle or oft-injured Darren McFadden. They want depth in the backfield, and Michael has a lot of talent even if deficiencies elsewhere in his game have limited C-Mike's playing time dating back to Texas A&M. Archer writes Michael is unlikely to become "the guy" at running back. "The Cowboys have planned to go with a committee, perhaps headed by Randle and split up with McFadden and (Lance) Dunbar," Archer wrote. "Now they can add Michael to the list."

Seems like the team just made a significant upgrade for cheap. Can't say I can complain. My worry has been that I didn't think Randle and McFadden could stay healthy all season, so with this I now have zero concern about the RB position. Successful front office move.

That fans around the league are pissed about it just makes me giddy, though.

If it makes sense, a fan of making a move, not so much of this guy.

I disagree though. I don't see a player capable of power running losing an active spot to Dunbar who is completely redundant with McFadden. Dunbar offers us next to nothing as a runner, and not as much as McFadden as a passing game threat to warrant play time other then a couple snaps a game. Even if Randle gets the bulk of the carries, Michael would have a consistent role on game day

He wasn't brought in for his pass blocking abilities. From what I've read, and this is from Seahawks fans, he's not very good in that department.

This is a pure runner, guys. He's going to see the field this year at some point.

Last year, Randle lost plays to Murray because he couldn't consistently pass block; Dunbar was a ghost unless it was an obvious passing situation. Dallas RBs are expected to pickup free rushers from the inside; Michael isn't going to see meaningful minutes unless he demonstrates that ability.

It's my understanding that Michael will have to be on the active roster for "x" amount of games for the conditional 7th rounder to be transferred. What the "x" is as this point hasn't been released yet to my knowledge.

A great read on why Michaels is considered an athletic freak.

Interesting read, but not sure how practical it is to try and create some ultimate formula to try to extrapolate NFL production/potential/whatever from combine numbers.

Will say this though, this part right here got a chuckle out of me.

I figured it might be interesting to look at some past running back SPARQ results. I tried to include backs with varying levels of success and pedigree. There's no intentional selection bias here -- I just went with names off the top of my head.

No "intentional" selection bias, just the guys he can name.....

Ya know, just a list comprised mostly of guys who are/were really damn good.

Why even "try" to include anything? Could just list the best numbers over a certain span and let their production fall where it may.

I would have rather got Terrence West but if they had to get a relatively young back, we shall see with this player. Just inconsistent as can be, but if he were not he would not be available. Just makes you wonder when the two time defending conference champions give up on him.
