As for that Desean Jackson fumble. Apparently if the whistle blows when anyone but a QB fumbles it, the defense can still recover it, but if a whistle blows when a QB fumbles it, the play is dead. The purpose of the two rules is to protect the QB and not having defenders go after him on incomplete passes which the defense argues are fumbles.
