To those who wanted someone else chosen for the #1 draft pick, they're not going to cut him any slack no matter what. He'll be expected to do everything perfect on every single play, and that still won't be adequate for some.

This is what it's all about deep down. They just wont admit it.

No, but enough plays. He hasn't shown any flashes of this "strength" he has. And he's getting a lot of playing time in these preseason games, so he's not exactly going against teams best players.

• Tolbert: looked really good
• Vaughn: looked really good
• Dowdle: was okay
• Overshown: devastating for him
• Mazi: still got work to do
• Cox: looked solid

The rest are either relatively proven quantities or not going to see much game time:

So pushing a guy straight back to the QB that makes the QB run into a sack isn't a flash of his strength. Or when he was doubled team at times and didn't move an inch?

Nah, we'd just settle for him looking like a first round pick. And what's with some of you guys making excuses? This is nothing personal against you or Mazi. I just don't believe in excuse making. Not at this level.

I'm not making excuses for the guy, I just don't think you can expect perfection out of a guy in his 2nd preseason game. Zack Martin was one of the few who came in looking great right out of the starting gate. If Mazi doesn't make it then so be it, but he's too big and strong and talented to write him off just because he wasn't a guy's favorite pick. I think Mazi is going to become an important part of this defense and he won't need any excuses.
