At least they tried for a full week to right their mistake. I commend them for at least trying....

Before Murray Went To The Titans in a Swap, Our Mike Fisher reports that the Cowboys and Eagles Talked DeMarco Trade.

Naturally, across the NFL landscape, the "DeMarco Murray news'' was all about the faded All-Pro running back being traded to Tennessee, part of Philly's post-Chip Kelly fumigation.

But inside of Valley Ranch, the "DeMarco Murray news'' also involved the Cowboys, as reported by our own Mike Fisher on 105.3 The Fan on Monday afternoon.

According to Fish, the trade-minded Eagles have been engaging in talks for at least a week with Dallas regarding a Murray boomerang back to the Cowboys. It was never going to make much sense, given the financial obstacles. Indeed, it's still not entirely clear on how it makes sense for Tennessee, though depending on how they've escaped the $9 million still owed the player on his existing deal, we shall see.

The running back's former team in Dallas never quite found that way, or bent as far as the Titans did. But Fish announced Monday on both the "Ben & Skin'' show and his own "Fishnato'' show that, "Sources inside Valley Ranch tell me that before Murray was dealt to the Titans, Philly and Dallas discussed a swap that would bring the former All-Pro back to the Cowboys.''

We can certainly imagine powerful people inside the locker room supporting the idea. DeMarco was/is close friends with Romo, Witten and Dez, among others.

The player would have been fine, but he has a short shelf-life, so no player in his right mind was going to renegotiate that salary down to half just to be in Dallas. He had guaranteed money and had to insist on keeping it.

The sarcasm is amusing. Lol

They tried which, like I said, validates a mistake having originally been made. That said, I am all aboard the Lamar Miller train. Anything but DMC starting next year is a major positive imo.

As a fan of signing Lamar Miller, this news shows me that the Cowboys are at least thinking about adding a running back and willing to spend some money.

This. Stash, you're on to something. And although we are on opposite sides of the fence on drafting Zeke Elliott, I think it shows that Dallas knows they need a dominant running attack with elite talent (in Dallas' offense) back there.

They tried last season, too. I don't think it matters much.

RB hasn't been our problem anyway.

The 2015 season marked the 20th time since 1970 that a Cowboy RB ranked among the Top 10 in rushing yards and yards per carry (min. 10 carries per game). The other 19 times this has happened, Dallas has ranked 11th or better in offensive passer rating.

1970 Thomas 8th yd, 1st ypc (pass 5th)
1974 Hill 8th yd, 8th ypc (pass 9th)
1975 Newhouse 9th yd, 6th ypc (pass 7th)
1977 Dorsett 9th yd, 2nd ypc (pass 2nd)
1978 Dorsett 3rd yd, 6th ypc (pass 1st)
1980 Dorsett 6th yd, 19th ypc (pass 7th)
1981 Dorsett 2nd yd, 4th ypc (pass 5th)
1982 Dorsett 2nd yd, 8th ypc (pass 6th)
1983 Dorsett 6th yd, 6th ypc (pass 5th)
1987 Walker 6th yd, 6th ypc (pass 11th)
1991 Smith 1st yd, 4th ypc (pass 7th)
1992 Smith 1st yd, 3rd ypc (pass 3rd)
1993 Smith 1st yd, 1st ypc (pass 2nd)
1994 Smith 3rd yd, 7th ypc (pass 4th)
1995 Smith 1st yd, 2nd ypc (pass 5th)
1998 Smith 5th yd, 10th ypc (pass 8th)
1999 Smith 4th yd, 7th ypc (pass 11th)
2013 Murray 10th yd, 1st ypc (pass 7th)
2014 Murray 1st yd, 6th ypc (pass 1st)
2015 McFadden 4th yd, 3rd ypc (pass 30th)

No, not really. It depends on the offer. If they made a nice offer and simply got outbid, then yeah. On the other hand, if they just made a token offer, then no.

A token offer does not equate to a week of negotiations.

Does not compute.

You don't go and trade back for damaged goods. Some of you have to let this Murray thing go as it is getting ridiculous now. If Cowboys are really serious in getting a back at #4 they can get Elliot, who will be a way better back in the NFL one day then Murray will ever be.
