Fans don’t even want to discuss why our defense gave up 31 points. Or a 14 point lead in 4th qtr.
14 point 4th quarters aren't once in a lifetime events. Every week 3 or 4 teams will score 14 points in the 4th.
Regardless, why did Dallas give up 28 in regulation to a poor GB team?
- Two times receivers beat Dallas CB's 1 on 1 with poor to no safety help. These two plays accounted for half of GB's points.
- The run defense is concerning. Everyone has gone over this at length. The DT's always get pushed back. The ends can't contain. The MLB never makes a play. Its frustrating to watch but Dallas isn't really giving up a lot of points this way.
- Dallas got short fielded once due to the Dak INT.
Basically, 3 plays accounted for 21 of the 28 points. Dak's INT. 58 yd to Watson. 39 yd to Watson (on 4th down to boot).
IMO, if you go into some safe type defense to protect against deep throws the defense overall will get worse, not better. Having the offense not turn the ball over makes the defense look good, as Cooper Rush showed.
.....
Overall, I still think that the guy with the bullseye on his back should be Kellen Moore. Offense helps the defense and defense helps the offense. The goal isn't to score a lot of points, the goal is to win the game. That's something that Parcells understood whereas I don't think KM gets it. Beyond that, his insistence on running timed read routes over the middle with no safety valve is making Dak and the receivers look like idiots.
The defense is good but not some all time great bunch. You probably need a very good DT and another good defensive back to get there. As such, they are going to have games like this in an offense first league.
