Cowboys will be fine at TE in 2023

I thought Dallas drafted Schoonmaker because they wanted to be more of a run team. 5:40 worth of highlights and not 1 blocking highlight. I'm not saying he can't block, just was hoping to see it.

I prefer to not count my chickens before they hatch. Some of the praise being thrown Schoonmaker's way is similar to praise Gavin Escobar received after he was drafted. Was supposed to be Jason Witten's replacement.

I do feel better about having at least seen that Ferguson and Hendershot can play on this level, but we don't know to what extent. I think we'll be OK, but I see no reason to put on the blue-tinted glasses and sing any praises yet.

Im keeping Ferguson in the 1 hole until Schoon beats him out, it's how it should be.

May need to add Luepke to that group. Although he would play fullback, it would likely mean one less TE is kept or on the field when he's out there.

I don't like the pick very much in Round 2 unless they are going to be using two-TE sets a fair amount of the time.

Oh I don't think we feared our TE room. AS a matter of fact I think most of us were ok with going into the season with Ferguson and Hendershot handling those duties. They decided to add Schoonmaker who was a 2nd round pick to the mix.

And even though he was a 2nd round pick I have a strong feeling Ferguson will be our starter and look damn good there and make us ask questions why we invested a 2nd rounder into the position....

Yup, I wasn't worried before we drafted a TE, let alone now. Schultz isn't all that and people will soon see his career isn't going to get any better than his days in Dallas.

He can block but they did not draft him for blocking. Cowboys do not want to be more of a run team. They would’ve never traded for Cooks.

I hate to say this but I feel like Schoonmaker was a niche investment. I feel like they used a 2nd on a true blocking tight end with solid pass catching ability in other words, an ideal TE2. I don’t hate it because they have 2TEs out there so often that he’s effectively a starter

Interested to see what Ferguson does this year, but I’m not opposed to taking a stud at TE in the future if we still feel like we don’t have a true starter

They have Schoon at 4.58, he's going to be a downfield type TE that Schultz & Ferguson don't have the speed to do. And he happens to be the best blocking TE on the team.

We’ll find out this upcoming season if we’re going to be fine at TE. We have three young TEs with potential but they’re unproven. The Cowboys wanted Schultz back, they offered him a contract. He was a good security blanket for Dak, and him moved the chains. If one of these young TEs don’t step up, it could lead to real problems. To have a real good offense you need a productive TE.

My point is if you wanted to run the ball more you would've used resources in improving your offensive line and drafting a running back before the 6th round. They will not run the football more they will run more smart. And I think that's what McCarthy was trying to convey.

Was Schultz an ideal TE2 to you? Because Schoon is a better TE than Schultz.

How could you possibly state that at this point. Schultz was 3rd in the NFL in receptions for a TE his last full season and Schoonmaker hasn't yet put on an NFL uniform. I have high hopes for the Schoonmaker pick and can’t wait to see him, but the way we sometimes inflate a guys ability once he becomes a Cowboy draft pick is crazy…

if pre-draft someone stated they think we should take him in the 2nd there likely wouldn’t have been one other poster agreeing with them.

I'm more worried about the RB room..They need to add another 20 carry back.. Thinking Pollard will stay healthy all year is fools gold..

And he can't carry the load for the whole game.
